I forgot to mention my favorites.

Bill Bruford (Yes): His playing is really light and crisp which is great for Yes because their stuff is so intricate it would easily become cluttered with a heavier drummer. He also has a great way of making odd time signature changes flow really well. Favorite performance: Heart of the Sunrise.

Darren Jessee (Ben Folds Five): Not the best technique in the world, but he's great at injecting energy in to a song. His playing is very dynamic and he does a lot of subtle tempo shifts. Favorite performance: The Last Polka

Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello): Incredibly versatile, creative and tasteful drummer. Never once heard him wreck a song with something inappropriate. Favorite performance: New Lace Sleeves

Terry Chambers (XTC): XTC's songs are like a jigsaw puzzle. None of the individual parts of the arrangement would make any sense in isolation. Terry's grooves are really unique. Often very syncopated but always danceable. Favorite performance: Living Through Another Cuba

I don't give a shit how many drummers have more chops and technique than him, that joke is true. Neil just plays every part right. It's mind-boggling.

3. Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Crimson)
4. Phil Colins (Genesis)

Check out Gavin Harrison, he's pretty much one of the best drummers in this day and age. He's been voted as the best Prog drummers many times even though he's a jazz musician. That's why Robert Fripp made him the lead drummer in his new King Crimson line up with 3 drummers. You should see the other two drummers Pat Mastelotto and Bill Rieflin's face when Gavin is doing his drum solo in the King Crimson concert, they were mesmerized by it everytime.
