This. The builder games aren't terribly fun or interesting and we've had a lot of them lately. I'd much rather see a new tourney.

But yeah regardless I'm not big on either. I'm not crazy about the tourney idea for reasons already stated by others in the nomination thread. I might participate if it happens, but not terribly actively.

Obviously I'd be so so so down for a tournament. I know that Jim, SingingPeasant, Brandon and I can group up to host this and filter out the indie pop from the non-indie pop. I think Orange Juice and The Smiths are indie pop enough to be in the tourney, though..

Who knows? General rule for most sites re. indie-pop though (especially Wikipedia) is that if it's got some light guitars and is generally quite 'up' then it gets branded (incorrectly I might add) as such. There's also some debate as to whether even The Smiths qualify (or indeed early Orange Juice). You could argue that indie-pop is more shambolic, amateur, DIY in nature. Then again, you could say it's just an alternative to 'indie-rock'. It's very similar to how all Jamaican music gets lazily branded as 'reggae'.

I think if someone really wants to do this you need to consult the indie-pop aficionados on this site (Singingpeasant, Suede, Brandon, yours truly) who'd give you a more accurate list.

Personally speaking I think the whole genre builder elimination thing is totally flawed. You're facing off albums which bear no relation to one another apart from a tag someone on RYM decided to label a certain release with. You might as well compare The Beatles with Coldplay.

All well and good but...

1. Should really limit to one album per artist
2. This list is still as indie-pop as Rowdy Roddy Piper
3. Builder games are silly, especially when someone has got to listen to umpteen albums as opposed to one record. Fine for one album, but will get tiresome over time. Plus how the frig can you really get inside an album after one listen? Nonsense I tell ye.

Yeah, I second this list not being very indie pop. It's mainly because, for whatever reason, RYM thinks that chamber pop is a subgenre of indie pop. And that's why stuff like The Colour of Spring appears here. For a more accurate list, uncheck the checkbox "+ subgenres" and then you should get nothing but indie pop.

EDIT: Also include twee pop

That's stange, Galaxie 500's On Fire is categorized as Dream Pop while Today is Indie Pop... that's too bad, I like On Fire better.
Time to listen to the Go Betweens then I guess !
