Maybe this is why Lost in The Dreams ruffles so many feathers- every discussion about 2014 albums ends up being in some form about The War on Drugs.

And yeah Pinata is very good, a strong hip-hop album where the terrific production and rapping complement, rather than overwhelm, the other beautifully.

Aw yis. I can't remember a more divisive album among my rap fan friends. Everyone agrees that Madlib is on point, but some people can't get behind Gibbs, whether it's his flow or his subject. But damn if I didn't just keep coming back to this one all year. The combo just works.

The list is mostly made of albums that I generally like, but not quite as much as some (or as much as I wanted to). Pom Pom is maybe the only one I really wasn't big on...
Favourites are Black Messiah (easily in my personal top 5) and Ought (top 10), and the most pleasant surprise is Perfect Hair, also one of my favourite hip hop albums of the year. An interesting list in any case...

So besides having a more interesting & unanticipated top ten, it contains more exceptional/ great albums while avoiding any stinkers at all.

Wow, I was listening to this earlier newly because it was our member voted number 1. And I was blown away even more than I was the first couple times. It's jus a fucking epic success. Every damn thing about it.

And I am happy with it at number 1. Of our top 10 is prefer only "Black Messiah" over it. But again it's a pretty perfect number 1.

It blows my fucking mind that Benji didn't even make top 10! I mean, I don't really love Benji, but I remember everyone and their moms praising that recird when it released. Weird.

kinda wish id played this, though I doubt itd change anything really. Prefer The Water[s] (amongst others) to Pinata as far as 2014 hip hop goes, but I almost prefer it(the waters I mean) to anything at this point. I have no idea if its even really liked on bea tho

Hurray, just like it should be. Honestly while the production and Gibbs's rapping are both impressive neither are some of the best I've heard. What I love is how well they work together in such a seemingly unexpected way. There are no weak tracks and it's really just a super fun record.

I am surprised none of RTJ, Benji, To Be Kind, or St. Vincent made it, even with the negative points thing. I'd have thought at least one would have squeaked in. Probably for the better though, maybe it'll convince me to listen to some on this list that I haven't heard.
