Anways, no Lethal put up a great team, Songs: Ohia and Snd were great left-field choices and Broadcast, Quasimoto and some top-notch 21st-century hometown recognition (you know, that's not "Thrift Shop") Sunn O were all ace too. And definitely a good balance with the singles. Given there were a few juggernauts that I was fearing and that's why I loaded my team, was a bit surprised maybe not to see at least one of them but Lethal def had his strategy and a lotta love with his team, the match def should be closer than it is.

Don't know how controversial this opinion is on here. I certainly agree with it at least.

Probably gonna go 03 in the end anyways, because of the aforementioned SKM and Murderer and such. Had it been another Broadcast album this would have been a much harder choice, but Noise Made By People is just fantastic, not utterly transcendent like Haha and Tender. Quasimoto and Pram are good shouts too, I just love pretty much everything about that 03 team.

There's not a single album on either of these teams below great. On the one side, The Noise Made by People and stdio are just stunning and could easily be on my chart. Meanwhile, The Lioness and The Unseen are chill as fuck jams I can see putting on just about any time.

On the other side, we have Sun Kil Moon's actual best album (come at me), my favorite Sufjan record, and a B&S classic.

I'd probably decide this on the singles, but fuck that, the margin here is an insult to good taste. Voted Skinny.

This is doing my head in. I'm leaning ever so slightly towards Skinny's albums, but Saoirse's singles are heavenly. This is like the spinning top at the end of Inception. Saoirse is smashing it with the votes though, so I'll give this one to 2000. Also stdio might be my favourite discovery from this tourney.

Anyways like most of the teams here it's really a sort-of time-and-place ideal that ties it all together, and in this case the 08-10 night-shift years when listening to albums was really all there was to keep myself from falling asleep or going insane.

Skinny has been giving me a weekly nostalgia trip with his singles choices. I remember loving that All Saints song back then. Fuck me, I feel so old...

Anyhow lots of listening to do, liking most of what I heard from both teams...

Honestly, that 2003 team might be one of my favourites of the tournament. One of Belle & Seb's best, arguably Four Tet's best (it's between Rounds and Beautiful Rewind), one of Kozelek's best (I only prefer April, Perils from the Sea, Benji, Down Colorful Hill, and Rollercoaster), a very good Sufjan album, and one of my favourite albums of all-time in Boy in da Corner, plus some fantastic singles (I particularly love 'Murderer', whilst 'Cause=Time' might be my favourite BSS song, and '99 Problems' is a beast, though if I'm honest I'd have picked 'Excuse My Miss' as my favourite '03 Jay-Z single). Fantastic picks across the board from Saoirse.

That said, I slightly prefer my team. I'd take snd's stdio over Rounds, The Lioness over Ghosts of the Great Highway (just) and Michigan, and I give myself bonus points for the inclusion of what might be Sunn O)))'s best. That said, I can barely split Dear Catastrophe Waitress and The Noise Made By People (I've been loving the latter recently, but Dear Catastrophe Waitress was my introduction to Belle & Seb and has a special place in my heart), and there's nothing on my team that I prefer to Boy in da Corner. My singles, however, are stronger (in my not-so-humble opinion), and I'd take 'Pure Shores', 'Feel Good Hit of the Summer', and 'The Next Episode' over any single from that 2003 team.

Anyway, it's a match that I'd find extremely difficult to decide about if I weren't involved. Below are my honest rankings (which show just how close the matchup is):

Boy in da Corner > The Noise Made By People = Dear Catastrophe Waitress > stdio > The Lioness > Ghosts of the Great Highway > ØØ Void > Rounds > The Unseen > Michigan

'Pure Shores' > 'The Next Episode' > 'Feel Good Hit of the Summer' > '99 Problems' > '911' > 'Murderer' > 'Cause=Time' > 'Pretty (Ugly Before)' > 'The Owl Service' > 'La Ritournelle'

There's nothing less than very good among any of the albums in this matchup, and the singles are uniformly excellent too, barring Tellier. A really great match, and one of my favourites of the tournament so far, if I do say so myself.
