all of this. my first heavy chart involvement took place in 2013. I would've liked this site to have been around (or me be more involved in it) from 2005-2010. I really wish i could look back at myself from that time.

I donno, I would've liked to have joined BEA back in late 2007/early 2008, when I actually started exploring all the big albums out there rather than just listening to specific & casual favorites, would've been interesting to have this reference from the very beginning.

Basically when I first joined a lot of the users who were most active on the forums recently were on hiatus or were just leaving, so it was a pretty calm time, though it was also when some jackass called Lethalnezzle joined and changed the fate of BEA forever, so there was some definite activity but for the most part 2012 was pretty chill beyond the usual fights with RFNaples. Then the relative serenity ceased to exist at the beginning of 2013 when there was a wave of new users and the forums got a lot younger, and perhaps inevitably the changing of the guard unleashed some (needlessly) bitter mud-slinging in the forums, and it at points felt like it was the forums vs one-particular-user-who-I-don't-think-I-have-to-name, or newer-ish-users vs some older users that became pretty toxic all around, but it eventually managed to move past that dynamic and for the most parts the forums got pretty chill and civil again by the end of 2013, and while I was rarely on here in 2014 due to ear problems keeping me from listening to new music there was that point when the forums got the attack of the feels and it felt like we were taking on everybody's personal problems and were at fault whenever we tried to take all those things (and each other) less seriously. But eventually again it seemed like people were able to move past that point and the forums have remained pretty congeninial since, perhaps at time a little static and maybe too chill for it's own good but at least no longer taking on petty grudges and users have managed to let go a bit and not take everything so seriously. So yeah that's the personal BEA timeline...

But yeah it's def been an interesting time from back in may 2012 when I first joined to now. Given back then it was during the time stuck in the north dakota wasteland so I literally had little else to do when I started and was on a lot more, basically acting like the BEA den mother and just enjoyed making character lists and hammering on Naples. Was fun but looks awfully schmaltzy in retrospect. Given it was good in later 2013 and most of 2014 when I got busy and was on here a lot less, since it really feels like Im on here less to discuss music and just to cause mischief and talk about random shit, so Im trying to slowly wean myself off the forums beyond tournaments and the occasional discussion of new albums. But everybody and everything is still awesome ^_^. I blame benpaco.

BEA has been fun, especially during May-June 2014, but now it has become a little stale for me. With that said, though, i wouldn't want to turn back anything. Everything that i've done on here has shaped what people think of me in one way or another and i find that fun! Even though things are stale in the forums (for me) right now, i still enjoy coming on here to update charts and whatnot.

I feel like I joined when a whole bunch of current forum regulars joined. It was like within just July 2013, me, Gowie, sp4cetiger, benpaco, and maybe a couple others, all joined up.

This place is awesome and I can't accurately express in words how glad I am that I joined this forum. This is probably one of the best decisions I've ever made, and it's certainly been the best decision I've ever made for my personal musical growth, without a doubt. Before I was here, I was part of another music forum that was, in all honesty, made up of middle-aged people who were stuck in the 70s and had little to no interest in new music. There wasn't much posting, not much of anything going on. This place, the community is fantastic, the people are great, the musical knowledge is vast and deep, I love this place and I'm so happy I joined.

Yeah, I feel much the same, 4 and a bit years has changed my opinion and attitude towards things even beyond music, I bummed around the charts for a long time before I ever ventured near the forums, glad I finally did though, cheers for everything guys, it's been a wonderfully bizarre couple of years.

Funny thing is I was just talking to some people about my earlier posts here. (Cringey and kinda elitist despite lack of knowledge) Obviously the first thing I would do is go back and make sure that emo bands thread was never made. 🤣 (Seriously though, it still might be one of the worst threads in the site's history)
