Ended up voting for '83 despite me loving the Neko Case, Julia Holter, Forest Swords, and the singles from Courtney Barnett, and FWA Twigs. But 1983 just had more stuff going for it, I actually love that Marillion record (even though they went on to do better) for example-- One of New Order's stronger offerings, Eno doing what Eno does best, Wipers and Talking Heads offerings are fantastic, and I like all of the singles.

idk, It's only down by four votes yet showcases Marillion - second wave prog is hardly the way to garner votes. Plus an 80s Genesis single doesn't typically bring voters to their knees in these parts. Neither does U2. Not to mention that one of the albums is what?... Eno's 10th best known work? (of course it's still fantastic, but still not that well known.) All & all, the 1983 team is faring pretty well considering & I'm biased - I voted 1983. ( I mean, come on- it has Iron Maiden!!!!) 😁

2013 has the tri-combo of LCS, Doris, and Like Clockwork. Both teams are great and I don't want to vote against that 83 team but the 13 team is just a little better.

kinda surprised by the negative response to 1983, considering it contains two of the best albums ever (Speaking in Tongues and Power, Corruption and Lies), not to mention some great singles from Cocteau Twins, Go Betweens and even U2.

I like a some of the records from 2013, and Loud City Song is a masterpiece, but quite a few of those picks do nothing for me.

I love Neko's earlier records much much more than this one too.

Anyways, even if I wasn't biased this would be an easy decision. There isn't anything on that 2013 team that is less than really really really really good, and the combination of Neko and Holter is too brilliant to go against, plus that god-like singles team (yes even with Lorde's lesser single :wink:). The 83 team is balanced out by one really terrific album (Power, Corruption and Lies), three solid-to-strong albums by bands and artists who made at least a couple better ones and one thing I don't care for at all. The singles team is also a mixed bag, and overall just most of it is a matter of taste for each individual release. So 2013 easy. Yeah, great job captain Loveless and hope everything works out.

Really not sure which I prefer at this point. Both teams have stuff I love and stuff I couldn't care less about. A bit of listening to do for both, so that'll be what decides it. Not sure how I feel about the repeating, although This Must Be The Place isn't one of my favorite tracks off Speaking In Tongues anyways so I'm inclined to be more lenient.

I'm not with the "best of her career" statements, it's certainly better than her first two records (Furnace Room Lullaby and The Virginian) but it's nowhere near Fox Confessor or Blacklisted. Hell, I even like Middle Cyclone better even though that felt more riddled with pop hooks than TWTG. It's definitely an impeccable record, but the songwriting and production isn't as good as Blacklsited or Fox Confessor...

Heh to be honest it might be my least favourite song on the album. Not bad but kinda feels like an interlude, and the lyrics feel like they were made on the spot and not changed afterwards.
The album however is fantastic and sits comfortably in my top 10 of 2013. Also easily my favourite album of hers (well, of the three or four that I heard). The album overflows with this bittersweet feeling, that of looking back with regret but moving on... See the track I linked above (Calling Cards) as a perfect example. A beautiful album.

It's actually really good. I under appreciated it at first for sure. A friend gave me a copy of it on vinyl, so I figured I'd give it another listen and suddenly loved it. There's some killer tracks on it.

Also, 2013 is getting my vote. Really great picks from that year. Apart from New Order and The Wipers, the 1983 just.. doesn't appeal to me.. again 😨

1983 far more than 2013. Like 1983 has great albums and songs while this time around 2013 doesn't have anything I like a great deal

Anyways Im doing 2013 just because that team is heavenly, 1983 has some stuff I really like mixed in with some stuff I really, really, really, really don't, and also again not a fan of the recycling (though that isn't an automatic vote and there's... nothing wrong with it 😁 , 2013 is just really beautiful, despite loveless being a little heartbreaker).

'13 at first sight. Don't know this Neko Case album, but it can't be less appealing to me than Marillion. Will listen to the singles before I finally vote, but I don't see how... despite Wipers.
