I think you might just not "get" vaporwave, then

Yep. 3 in the Morning Pt. 2 >>>>>>> All Screwed Up (though they're both great).

That being said, I think Screw only applies when talking about vaporwave from a sonic perspective. From a philosophical/modern art perspective, he doesn't really factor in much at all.

I dont know why the All screwed ups have become sort of benchmarks for DJ screws work. Pretty much any of the chapters are more important.

From a philosophical I still see them as pretty connected. They both use consumerist/vain culture in a DIY sense. IDK, I dont really think there is a higher purpose then that

I've only heard Floral Shoppe but I find the aesthetic pretty dull. Wow you put old graphics and kanji on something, so fucking cool.

Was actually about to mention screw. The whole chopped and screwed aesthetic is totally integral to VW's foundation (even if I prefer Screw to basically all VW I've heard). Also miiiight wager that Three 6 Mafia are worth a mention

As a side note: I know one of the unaccredited creators. made a VW album in like 2010.

Also it urks my when people talk about the roots of VW and dont mention DJ screw.

vaporwave is the act of détournement. i feel its less to be appreciated simply as a genre of music than it is an expression of a situationist philosophy, or culture jamming - its hypercommercial "utopian" music remixed and degraded into these often mind-numbing cynical loops. its great. 11/10 genre.

JAPANESE DISCO EDITS

if I send 69-packs of PBR your way, can u buy me Yung Bae'z (Luhrmann) discography?

Also, I think Warm Surplus do an extraordinary job at combining vaporwave concepts with Death Grips noise and experimentation. With Borve, it's not just a meme or a take on nostalgia: He these public-domain samples to speak on life, the human experience, and how "awesome" gay people are.

Read an interview when it released where Daniel said something about how the modern vintage aesthetic and self-awareness of vaporwave inspired some of the music on the record. Might be wrong though.

I thought vaporwave was more like corporate training video music aesthetic + fetishized japanese text, never saw a connection with r+7 which seems more in line with early midi type of stuff
