Don't worry, I've been on the edge of my seat as well 😄 It's certainly an exciting match, and with a team like yours it's really a lose/lose situation. I didn't know who you were coming into this tournament and I underestimated you. While I didn't love all of your picks on every team, your teams were all well composed and you certainly put up a great fight, and are a worthy opponent. Shall the best person win.

With the stakes as high as they are for me this round, it's been incredibly depressing watching my once comfortable lead vanish almost entirely over the course of a single day. I probably jinxed myself when I recalled junodog's close comeback in the last round and then got nervous.

I suppose a close battle is more exciting in the moment, at least.

Red Medicine could be my favorite Fugazi album on any given day, but of course this is a band who never made anything less than brilliant. And 1995 has some other great picks.

1983 gets my vote though, since it's just totally loaded. Those albums are legendary, and This Mortal Coil's cover of "Song to the Siren" is one of the greatest things i've ever heard, along with "Let's Dance'. Nothing to be ashamed of when losing to a year this stacked, Mr Frogger

I didn't dismiss anything, my illiteracy aside, Im not basing my enjohyment on eldctro pure ton how I like painful or fakebook it's just a way of expressing opinion there's no personal criteria that it has the be the top 2 of the band for it to get my vote or whatever afterall these are a series of rather excessive and needless posts that just list opinions and don't need to be properly graded for the vote to cou... oh nvm why get worked up about a purely fun tournament Im going to go pass out anyhooss

I think it's often meant to say it's an album we like or moderately enjoy from a really good band, but nothing to get too excited about. But I guess Ill make sure to evaluate my semantics before we elect the fucking pope here

This tournament isn’t about if Yo La Tengo released a better album in years prior or after, this tournament is about the list of records and if they are quality releases. To me the whole “they released better” is superfluous and stupid. For me I look at each round to see how much I like each record, not if I like a better record in a different year.

Anyways, so surprised at the lack of love for Electropura. Maybe it's just because I got to hear Yo La Tengo development in real time and I was catching Yo La Tengo live every chance I got in the 90s, but Electropura is really where Ira started to go fucking crazy with psychedelic jams & blistering sonic assaults. After the meditative & hypnotic Painful, it was great to hear Yo La Tengo let it rip while still maintaining their contemplative charm of such tracks as "The Hour Grows Late". It was on Elctropura that Yo La Tengo showed they could do anything and established themselves as one of the most important bands in indie rock. Electropura was easily one of my (& my friends) favorite releases back in '95. Honestly, from the charming Fakebook to contemplative Nothing Turned Itself, Yo La Tengo's only misstep was May I sing With Me & even that still has its moments.

Good job from 95 (Crooklyn Dodgers is very underecognized and Fugazi <3) but 83 is even better.

83 put up a really strong team top to bottom this round, and Dio does have plenty of nostalgic value going for it. I do like 95 a lot though too, Tilt and Viva Last Blues are big favorites, though more Im not too big on (Electro-Pur-A is one of Yo La Tengo's weaker (if still interesting) releases and never been a fan of Autechre). Agree with Skinnylove that the albums team is a bit underwhelming overall just for the fact that all the artists put out at least a couple better records (with the exception of Tilt, still my favorite Walker record). Strong singles team, the hip-hop selections are the big standouts on both. Leaning towards 83 but may do some re-listening.

I think this is the general perception, but it's just not true. Four of those albums easily rank up there with the given band/artist's best stuff imo (can't comment on Tilt since I more of a fan of Walker's 60s stuff). There have been lots of times when I've considered Red Medicine & Electro-Pura Fugazi/Yo La Tengo's BEST. And I LOVE Fugazi & Yo La Tengo. And Tri Repatae is godhead.

Not sure how I'm going to vote because that '83 team rules too. Especially Holy Diver. \m/ Just want to point out that Frogger's picks are stellar for those artists and completely essential parts of their discog imo.

So this team of mine has my favorite 95 discovery I made, which is Return Of The Crooklyn Dodgers. Now it's one of my favorite Hip-Hop songs of all time. I could listen to that track forever. It also has Viva Last Blues, which is another fantastic discovery, though I was never a stranger to Will Oldham. But seriously, Return Of The Crooklyn Dodgers, what a great track.
