Voted 1999 in the end. I just prefer Black on Both Sides and The Soft Bulletin to anything on that 1995 team. Gonna stick on The Soft Bulletin now actually.

From what I have heard from the teams, this is a decision between Black on Both Sides + Sigur Ros vs Pygmalion.

Oh, 1999 was so much better than 1995. Even without Agaetis Byrjun, 1999 was better.

If I were to pick the best five albums from this match, four of them would be from 1999. The fifth one would be Alien Lanes (which, I'll admit, was really good). Alien Lanes knocks out Black on Both Sides. That was an interesting head to head, by the way, BOBS vs. Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous. I'd never heard anything by Big L before this, he's got a Busta Rhymes motormouth quality that enhances any rap song. LODP+D would have been number 6 in my ranking of the 10 candidate albums.

The 1999 singles were better too, contrary to the inexplicable love that 1995 is getting.

Slowdive and Low are just boring. Having both in the same group didn't help Team Alien, but 1999 was going to be pretty unstoppable no matter what Frogger did.

Vote to Team Angel Fetus.

Anyways.... to get back on voting, I guess I have to say Im sorry Lovey. That 99 album has a great album and single each in Black on Both Sides and Stolen Car (although def check out the full 5-and-a-half minute version for full effect), otherwise it's very good (I like The Soft Bulletin a lot but not an utter masterpiece, Ageatis Byrin is lovely if never quite soaring and Pale Folklore is very good, a bit shaggier-style Agalloch. The Black Tamborine songs all I can say 😁 are quite lovely too. After Stolen Car though the singles are mostly okay but occasionally quite good but nothing too earth-shattering.

That 95 team though is something else. Ocean Beach, Pygmalion and Long Division are all absolutely beautiful and have been on the cusp of my overall, a very good Guided By Voices release and I haven't heard Lifestylz but will try to squeeze that in. While The Brian Jonestown and Wilco's single are mostly just pretty good, the other three are absolutely stellar.

Will give some things a listen but am leaning 95, hope this doesn't kill your chances Loveless 🫢

To be honest I don't even know if that was ever decided on as a rule, I think that was decided on the last tourney but I don't remember it specifically coming up this go-around. ANd I guess im just a little too tispy and lazy to read through all the rules right now. Even though I raised the concern Im fine with keeping it, even though I think it contains material from previously released EPs (well, Throw Aggi Off the Bridge at least), although that may just have to do with how those EPs were classified (were they meant as singles?). Ill leave it up to the higher powers.

EDIT: I guess Defago said there's wiggle room on the Compilation-issue, they're not technically dis-allowed but I guess there's an issue about "adequately representing a year" and maybe the issue might be the album using material recorded through 89-91, but it's a bit of a confusing rule to be honest. If Space Tiger's fine with allowing it all should be fine, that rule's kind of set up for confusion (no offense meant Defago). And technically I think there are other albums that have been used that fit the compilation description so I guess that wouldn't be fair, so sorry for giving the tournament more headaches

Considering Black Tambourine never released an EP during the short tenure as a band I think their compilation in ’99 should be completely acceptable, I mean yeah it’s not an actual LP but it basically serves as the only one the band would get. I mean this isn’t like someone using a non-single as a single here, I source my shit and believe fundamentally that this should be fine. If it is considered illegal, I will abstain from the match.

I do have to raise the point to well I guess Defago has his own shit to deal with so Space Tiger, what was decided about using compilations, in respect to Complete Recordings? I hate to be a stickler here but if that's not allowed I guess it technically has to be removed, but we're already so well into the match I don't know how much difference it will make. I guess it's up to you.

Could go either way here on average quality, but one of my all-time favorites is on 1999, so voting that. Morning Glory could have trumped even Soft Bulletin, but so it goes.

Both teams have albums way up on my list of all time favorites, but 1995 has the slight edge considering I just can't vote against Slowdive, RHP, Low, GBV
