I've listened to a couple of the 1984 albums (the Smiths and the Butthole Surfers ones). Fair's fair, they were really good, and I probably would have voted for that 1984 team against most opponents.

I'm not a fan of either team, but I'm going with 84. While Court & Spark is my favorite album on either team, there is nothing else on the 74 team that interests me, while 84 has Minutemen and Blue Nile.

And that Sweet album has a little filler, but all in all it's a high-quality glam album for sure, but Ballroom Blitz? Fox On The Run? The Six Teens? Those are some of Sweet's best stuff.

I'm not in love with either team - Rock Bottom is the best thing here, and Court and Spark is also excellent. That said, even though there's not a ton of stuff I adore on that 1984 team, there isn't anything I dislike at all. I love The Smiths' debut, and I'm a big fan of Double Nickels. It's cool seeing The Blue Nile here, but Rooftops pales in comparison to Hats, and it's definitely more a case of appreciation than love when it comes to those particular Bats and Butthole Surfers releases. 'West End Girls' is easily the best single on either team.

So yeah, easy vote to 1984, largely based on consistency, and in no small part down to some 1974 albums I can't stand.

Well, can't say I've heard that BTO album in full. But from what I've heard of that band, I have little hope I will like it. And the album Listmeister says he hasn't heard I don't believe I have either, to the disappointment of my boy Jasonconfused. Court and Spark is pretty good, I remember liking it when I heard it. The only really awesome album and thing on Listmeister's side is Rock Bottom. If I were to give this team a grade it'd be D+.

But I voted for Repo's '84 team without a doubt. The reason is: THAT TEAM IS JUST ABOUT PERFECT! The albums are smang af - that Smiths album is great despite me not being a big Smiths fan. Double Nickels is downright revelatory. The Bats release is cool as hell. And of course Butthole Surfers' brand of debauchery and insanity is legendary! Haven't heard that Blue Nile - but I will. But yeah, doesn't matter much cuz even if it sucked (which I'm sure it won't at all) it's '84 easily in the album department.

Oh and the singles! Damn! Those Whodini and Pet Shop Boys and Siousxie tracks are mind blowing. Especially "Friends" by Whodini. I heard it for the first time when seeing this team and I have not been able to get it out of my head since!

Just like when Seattle tried to claim Modest Mouse, Sleater Kinney or Beat Happening- Olympia is a seperate city people plz.

Anyways I think it may have to do with people just not wanting to associate the band with a city where people are always missing teeth and where no-one ever wants to comes 'round these here parts.

Anyhooz, I have to admit I still haven't heard Rock Bottom but beyond Court and Spark 74 is a barren westland. 84 on the other hand is nearly perfect top to bottom, that Whodini single esp gets me all damp and bothered. Still haven't heard Blue Nile though so may do some listening to that and Wyatt before voting but at this point it's like 9-1 in 84's favor.

Court and Spark and Rock Bottom are all '74 really has going for it imo. That Bachman Turner Overdrive album is honestly one of the worst things I have ever heard

I was ready to say the exact same thing.

I'll be honest, I haven't heard everything on the '84 team (the By Night EP), but even without that, I couldn't vote against it. The Smiths album is enough to trump that '74 team for me.

But yeah, why use an album (possibly 2?) that you haven't heard yet Listmeister?
