I just told you what he contributed to music. In the post you quoted me in. Big influence on new wave. Inspired generations of songwriters. Made some timeless classics in his early days. That's what he contributed to music.

i really like the song "45" from When I Was Cruel, although the rest of the album is quite patchy

They actually toured the entire Doolittle album from front to back last year.

Hmm... They're one of those bands I like but will put on only when I'm in the right mood (Radiohead is similar for me). One argument could be that they created their own identity and niche, a very weird, eccentric, off kilter one, but they also had some great tunes. You really can't deny Debaser or Gigantic or Gouge Away or This Monkey's Gone to Heaven... I mean The Pixies had some great tunes.

I think you can like rock and not like the Pixies, but if you consider yourself an indie rock fan, well then you have to at least appreciate some of their stuff. They were one of the bands that invented the genre. I'm guessing you also hate Pavement and Sonic Youth, but I digress.

For me, I've never been a huge fan, but they are such a unique band, I can understand their cult status. By the way, shouldn't they be due for a rock hall nomination soon? On a purely side note though, the rock hall is becoming as lame as the Grammy's.

Anyway, The Pixies are great. I just have to be in the right mood.

Well, they're my all-time favorite band by some margin but I can actually understand people "not getting it".

I couldn't appreciate it in 8th grade when a friend introduced me, however three years later I did my Doolittle re-discovery and the rest is history. Doolittle's now my favorite album of all time with Surfer Rosa and Bossanova not too far behind.

Try listening in the future, and you might be rewarded.

i got into the Pixies about 10 years ago and quickly became a big fan. I was even lucky enough to see them live when they first reformed. They toured the greatest hits too long IMO and it would've been nice if they actually recorded a new album and toured that....they must all be sick to the teeth of playing Debaser, Where is My Mind, Monkey...etc

Just stirring you man (as I had noticed people had said that and thought it pretty ignorant) I first heard pixies at the end of fight club and though I liked that song mildly I could not enjoy the rest of their stuff. I really got into them about 2 years ago and I think what wolf said about accepting the 'ugly' is very accurate and went a long way to now where I love the band. So give it some time and if you still don't like it that's okay just try and understand why others might

One step to understanding the Pixies' appeal might be to acknowledge that "ugly", in this context, isn't an insult. The Pixies can make some extremely ugly music. That's rather the point.
