I saw Spirited Away for the first time earlier this week and really loved it, it's cool to see how high it is on this list. I don't know if this is the appropriate place to ask for movie recs, but what other Miyazaki/Ghibli films would you guys recommend I see. I've already seen Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle, both of which I liked a lot. According to this list I guess Princess Mononoke would be a good one to see next, so I'll definitely look into it. Just for reference, Spirited Away is my favorite of what I've seen followed by Howl's, then Totoro.

Oh yeah I can definitely see it as not being inherently flawed or anything, some brakhage or mclaren or len lye or maya deren would've probably been on my list had I realized those were ok. But the one I saw on the list was Paperman, that short that played before Wreck It Ralph. And its a nice one and all... but I think using the spots down there for things that only one person really cared about would make for more interesting reading.

Thanks. As I said, I did enjoy it quite a bit. Just not quite as much as a lot of people, but considering the responses I've gotten, I think I'll be watching again soon.

I think it strikes the perfect balance between sentimentality and comedy. Other than being really hilarious (which I know is totally subjective), Ray and Ken are very well crafted characters, and it explores its themes in a much more mature way than you initially expect. I love the atmosphere set by the music and the location, the whole film just has a tone that I couldn't pin to any other movie. It goes above and beyond what it needed to do to be a whacky comedy about hitmen in a quaint tourist town.

Hm, its funny and Colin Farrell is cute but its also very pretty in its danse macabre sorta way. I do so enjoy the atmosphere of it. 😜 And it doesn't even seem like the type of thing I'd like as much as I do.
