I listened to The Trial off of this and its fucking amazing. 🤣 its hilarious but it actually sounds really good too. Its the best thing ever when the Judge comes in. I'm gonna listen to more of this.

not that i mind, Ben. hadn't heard of that and i'm always interested in anything Daniel Johnston related. as for my preferences, i largely find cover albums of the sort described in the OP to be sorta gimmicky, but that's probably based more on the biased selection of who's gonna even get a tribute album or have the time to make one - that is, these things tend to be done by and for dinosaurs as some kind of legacy project for one or the other or both. my favorite cover versions on the song level have always been young upstart bands doing live versions of established classics or large influences that have their own flavor to them - Half Japanese's debut's myriad bizarre covers, Hijokaidan's tribute to Faust, most punk bands making fun of cockrock contemporaries and predecessors, etc. i was a huge fan of the FLips' DSotM when that came out, though it comes off as more obnoxious than anything at the present moment. never checked out their Sgt. Pepper's.

I'm doing a great job of reading today 🤣 Well I hope you like it, I was a little disappointed with the song choice and most of them (not all, especially not Waits) just make more Indie Radio friendly versions of his stuff. Still some really really cool stuff on there but it's pretty different than Johnston, be warned.

Everyone from Eels to TV on the Radio to Bright Eyes to Death Cab to Sparklehorse with Flaming Lips to Beck to Tom Waits. I think it's a pretty cool project.

Thanks Ben, though I was thinking I might not have been all that clear. I'm looking more for a single singer or group who paid tribute to an other single artist. Seems like an other tribute album, where 10 ppl take on 1 artist or album, comes out every couple months. I appreciate the recs though.
