Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective is probably more Beach Boys-ish than any Of Montreal album, but Merriweather is still much more weird than the strangest Beach Boys material. I guess it's the vocal harmonies that sounds like The Beach Boys over anything.

Appreciate all the recommendations! I keep hearing Fleet Foxes are like The Beach Boys but folk, definitely will check them out. I listened to some High Llamas and love them, I can hear the influence of SMiLE in their music.

Someone mentioned the Gay Parade but Of Montreal's most Beach Boys influenced record, in my opinion, is Satanic Panic in The Attic.

It's a slightly different definition of "inspired", but this is a must-listen from Brian Wilson's solo career. When it comes to late-career blunders, rarely are they as gloriously disastrously (and blatantly sexist) as "Smart Girls". The lyrics almost make 2 Live Crew look like A Tribe Called Quest, and even the production turns appalling studio laziness into a unique sort of musique concrete.

Keep 'em coming! I'm always down for more. You're right, The Soft Bulletin is often called the "Pet Sounds of the 90's." Skylarking by XTC would also be another one, there is one song in particular off that album influenced by Smiley Smile.

Love the Beach Boys - best band ever? Could be. Anywho, check out the Aluminum Group! Also I second the High Llamas' Gideon Gaye suggestion, you can definitely hear the influence. American Spring's Sweet Mountain is a fantastic piece of Beach Boys-esque music, though that's probably as Brian Wilson was involved 😄
