Without a doubt the blue ribbon champion at the county fair is Alvin & the Chipmunks 1994:magnam opus "Here's Looking at Me", right timeframe and most apt title in the genre. Always made me stare at my feet and feel despondent like all great shoegazer music should Furthermore it's the music of choice of chiropractors as many of its exponents have back issues by now... 🤔

Death To God by DeVries

This is easily one of my favorite shoegaze/dream pop records of the 21st century. Totally overlooked. I feel like those who like the more jangly, less noisy side of shoegaze would really like it.

Probably My Bloody Valentine everyone knows him, is the only band that i like from the genre.

Till i've listened to My Vitriol - Finelines.

That album ROCKS!!

Give it a listen.

A Storm in Heaven has always been a favorite of mine in this genre.

Also, carnavas.

In Ribbons by Pale Saints

One of my all time faves and I play it often. I like it more every year that passes. Easily as good as the acknowledged classics.

Also if you enjoy a more abrasive rather than dreamy sound then try these...

Shame Silver's chart is deleted, because it'd be a GREAT reference tool for you here. I've also got a Shoegaze / Dream Pop Chart if you are interested.

I would argue that Silversun Pickups kinda count as shoegaze, but basically only their album Caranavas. Particularly the song Lazy Eye.
Also, some of Smashing Pumkins' stuff could qualify, like the song Mayonnaise off Siamese Dream.

Geez wow! I wasn't expecting it to be so clarified for me, I mean with that chart and everything! Wow, thank you everyone for this absolutely amazing reception! Obviously I have quite some work to do. And I can see that My Bloody Valentine, Ride and Slowdive are solid considerations of essentials within the genre, guess I'll have to complete their discographies specifically. Anyway I greatly appreciate everyone's input in helping me figure this out.

If you like grunge and shoegaze.

Beaster by Sugar

Has a Husker Du vibe to it (as it's a Bob Mould band).

Blonder Tongue Audio Baton by Swirlies

If you venture into noise pop/alternative, this isn't a bad place to start.

More shoegazy/dream pop.

Stratosphere by Duster

I got really into slowcore after having a huge dream pop/shoegaze kick, and this album was the perfect jumping off point.

Seconded. An absolutely stunning record. It and Xuvetyn feel like the soundscapes MBV always wanted to create and never had the balls to do. It's pure bliss.

These are really good but I would love a censored version with Whirr redacted after the year they've had. Assholes don't deserve any more attention or money. You could check out Nothing instead, similar band with I think some overlap but I know the real problem guy in Whirr isn't in there. Just know that instead of the weird, rape-threatening/tumblr-trolling/anti-transgender activist in Whirr, you'll end up with the guy convicted of attempted murder from Nothing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Amywho here's some good shoegaze from this year:

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Hyperview by Title Fight

Production heavy, very washed out shoegaze

I Wasn't Born To Lose You by Swervedriver

Didn't blow me away but was alright, I know others loved it, decently good comeback for these 90s rockers.

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Dying by Spectres

Noise-heavy shoegaze, bordering on noise rock frankly.

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Peripheral Vision by Turnover

Same producer as Title Fight, but a very different sound, much more refined, cleaner riffs that still have a similar influence in being so sort of airy and blurred.

Deafheaven often get described as part shoegaze (black metal + shoegaze = blackgaze, to be specific). This may or may not float your boat.
