Only had chance to listen half-way during the festivities but I certainly get the feeling that El-P is maturing.

I like RTJ2 but it felt like they were going for a collection of bangers for Killer Mike to rant over. What I've heard so far feels more like a real cohesive statement.

Don't worry 🤣 I'm embarrassed to admit that I probably spent 3-4 minutes trying to figure out where it was as well. I kept waiting for an e-mail.

I still think the 'official' release is January 13th. They just happened to put it out early. But... I'm not sure if the official release dates really counts anymore. I have no idea what BEA will consider it as. Wikipedia is stating it as a 2016 release now. But whatever, everyone's raving about it so far and I really liked the first single, so I'm pumped to give it a listen 😎

This is going to sound weird, especially coming from me, but I think it's still considered a 2017 release. The official 'release' is January 13th I think.

Looking forward to giving it a listen sometime soon.

Piano Sonatas And String Quartets 1 by Horațiu Rădulescu

String Quartet No. 5 off of this is one of the unmissable classical performances of this year, maybe ever. But I'm a Radulescu fanboy. The Piano Sonatas are decent, and I'm excited to see if they get more interesting with subsequent releases in this series (meant to release all his SQs and Piano Sonatas eventually), but get this for the meat.

yes that one is great, DiSanto seems to have a really great approach to things judging by this and Three Exercises, and I'd agree that it makes for something a bit more accessible (relatively).

you probably mentioned it already, but as far as Erstwhile releases, Taku Unami / Devin DiSanto is great, too, and a lot more "active" in its presentation than a lot of Erstwhile stuff. possibly recommendable to a wider array than the typical Erstwhile release, though it has pervasive eccentricities

The only track that I've heard off of it is Redbone, and I thought it was pretty cool. It reminded me nothing of his previous work, mostly because he doesn't have a verse on it, but it's a decent track.

I just finished the album. It's not what I expected, but it's alright. Feels a bit self-indulgent and contrived, like he's trying too hard to be "artsy", but it's ok. It entirely abandons hip-hop for soul/R&B, which isn't necessarily bad, just not what I thought it'd be.

I love it. Surprise album that's one of my favorites of the year.

Just compiling my own 2016 list (I don't have enough points for here but I'm one of those blogger types) and listening through some of the year's best it really has been a good one. It's no 2015 but my top 10 is turning out to be a tough ask.

Radiohead and Nick Cave's albums are certainly pushing their way into my top 100-150, and in the coming years might make my top 100.

The album is kinda eclectic, touching on big room electro, progressive house, some darker techy songs, and some electronica inspired tracks. In interviews, he's described this as a collection of songs he's been working on, rather than a true album (like while(1<2) was), and I'd have to agree. It doesn't really flow at all, and, as a result, it's not as good as his last release. However, 10 of the 11 songs are really great (2448 does nothing for me), and the album is still worth a listen if you like mau5's music.
