Nevermind

The first half of the album is a legitimately great half album. The second half is kind of just there. Also, I kind of agree with Lastings

Nevermind forced labels to notice alt-rock bands, which definitely resulted in a bunch of great music getting exposure, but that shouldn't be relevant when assessing how great the album is itself. However, in my opinion, any album that sort of dies 5 tracks into its 12 track run-time doesn't deserve this level of celebration. I prefer In Utero personally, but that's just me.

After that, VU and Nico is my next choice. I strongly dislike the Nico features, and I prefer White Light/White Heat to this album. I think this one also gets a bit of a boost for being first, rather than being best.

That being said, I still think that all 10 of these are pretty great albums.

Fairly easy choice with Revolver. It has its moments (TMK is great, I'm Only Sleeping, Eleanor Rigby are quite good, and some other songs are nice) but it's also inconsistent and very far from a masterpiece imo -- from whichever angle one chooses to associate it as such.

Tough choice!

The only ones I really like in that pile are Floyd and Zep.

Finalists were down to the Beatles and Nirvana, with that incessantly whining hack Kurt Cobain taking the ultimate prize.

LZIV, easy. It's just bad. I don't care for DSOTM, either, and Sgt. Pepper's and Abbey Road really aren't that special, either. I'm a pretty big fan of the rest, though.

I'm a boring normie so I like all these albums, and I'm also a boring normie because Led Zeppelin IV is by far the most expendable. I listen to DSOTM every year and a half and immediately forget it, and LZ IV a little less often. I'll probably grow further apart from those albums as time goes by but I can't see myself saying the same about any of the others.

Radiohead is one of my favorite bands, and I still don't understand the obsession with "OK Computer." It's a good album, don't get me wrong, but I've always thought "Kid A" was infinitely more interesting. Like other people have said, though, I mostly wore out all of these albums when I was younger. I still love "Dark Side Of The Moon" and some of these others, but I still rarely feel like listening to Zeppelin or The Beatles when I could spend my time finding new interests. As for "Funeral," I still don't get it. I listened to it when I was younger just because the tracks were all so catchy, but other than that, it never really wowed me in any way.

I think all of these albums have quite a bit of merit for me. But, I think Nevermind is so high on the list because of what it represents and represented in the time it came out, rather than the music itself. I think if it came out in 1997, I don't think it would be as highly regarded as it is. For that reason, it's getting my vote here.

I could certainly be off base, though. just how I see it.

I guess the thing with LZIV for me is overplaying it when in my teens, nothing against it really, it even spent some time on my overall chart, I just grew away from Zeppelin as I discovered more music and now I rarely listen to them, if at all, I'd probably choose LZII as my favourite of theirs, but even that gets very little playtime. I imagine their are others who feel somewhat similar.

Abbey Road was in my opinion, most of all a proof that the creative fire in The Beatles was about to blow out and that it was right for them to split up soon afterwards.

Out of these albums, I would say that Led Zeppelin IV just might but the best of the bunch. If not it, then certainly Dark Side Of The Moon. Now I do have a bias there as those two albums along with Nevermind are the only ones of the top 10 that I have actually heard.

I like Arcade Fire, but this made me laugh out loud. So thanks for that.

For me I think I'd replace Velvet Underground & Nico and LZIV with the self titled Velvet Undergdound and LZII... then it would be near perfect for me.

Having said that Going to California is my all time favorite LZ song.

Although if I were to only have 10 albums on an island, I probably would do the one album per artist/genre rule and have on artist from this list, and then some U2 and R.E.M., RHCP and then a motown/soul and early 50s rock collection, with probably Beethoven's 9th.

Nevermind would be my least favourite out of the top ten...mostly because I find Arcade Fire unlistenable. I can at least listen to an entire Nirvana album. Arcade Fire...nope. Sorry. Not my thing. Can not listen to fifteen minutes of Arcade Fire without having really violent feelings.
