I could be wrong, but I think that they completely took the bass guitar out of Metallica's And Justice For All. Has anyone else ever noticed that?

It's interesting to see how her role in the band was gradually reduced. While bass was central in many of the early songs (Where Is My Mind being just the most obvious example), you will find it coated with extra guitar layers on Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde. "Searching for new sound" was just a part of the truth, I guess.

So this website used to exist (bassfuzz.com)... I swear I went to it like 6 months ago... kinda sad it is no longer active, that had a review of just about any bass fuzz/distortion/overdrive pedal out there. Very helpful resource and cool bass tones.

Oh I was agreeing with you... by playing a baritone guitar, it is I think tuned to a low A instead of the higher E. Stoner rock totally does the same thing, but the whole band is super low tuned.

Primus needs to be in the thread. Sailing the Seas of Cheese is a very good album.

I'm not crazy about all their music, but I am for that album.

Mark Sandman of Morphine had this unique laid-back soft sliding bass playing style that I've always enjoyed. Plus Morphine was a band without a guitar, which made him stand out as the absolute driving force behind their music.

thundercat is a stud. i got to see him live a while back, and he's definitely my top bassist now. the guy's a beast.
