it's pretty good, sitting right outside of my top 100 projects of 2016

Death From Above does sound like it touches on some of the issues with religious affiliations.

Anyway, the album as a whole isn't terribly interesting.

It isn't bad, and there's maybe 3 or 4 great songs, and the rest slightly above average. Not a bad album, but nothing great either.

They aren't amazing, but they do meet a level of quality that is worth my time.
https://open.spotify.com/track/71xWNCgyWTFoQp0jogBxVn

Oh trust me, I'm well, well aware. Preferred Mene but this one's still real good

I think I listened to a song or two off of The Alchemy thing and was kind of underwhelmed, I don't even really remember it. If I listen to them it's generally The Artist in the Ambulance.

hehehe... how silly of me to think I'm the only one who get's Spotify alerts of new music, or that that even is a good way to find out about new music.

How's the brand new Brand New? Haven't given a spin yet.

It honestly depends on the band. For Brand New I found out about the song first from Amazon actually, just a snippet got put up there, and then happened to see Mike Sappone share the full song the next morning. Other bands, though, Spotify notifications have been really useful to follow. And it's a good tune, more similar to YFW than Daisy, got compared to Morrissey vocally and Blink instrumentally which I agree with to a point.

hehehe... how silly of me to think I'm the only one who get's Spotify alerts of new music, or that that even is a good way to find out about new music.

How's the brand new Brand New? Haven't given a spin yet.

Also here's a song from each Index that I like (not trying to convince anyone, just sharing):

Fire: Firebreather. The oohs at the end of this combined with the gritty baritone guitar and totally rad bass line in the verse gets my jones' every time. https://open.spotify.com/track/5YMsZ5F351Q0zKUIRCiidw

Bright, explosive music.

Water: Night Diving. I feel like I'm scuba diving into the ocean late at night discovering the vast ocean. Again the baritone guitars get me. And that almost submarine sound. Runner up is Digital Sea where the 1's and 0's almost sound like they are drowning in water. https://open.spotify.com/track/5iPnqHpiEn6JfWPjvPkKCG

Air: Broken Lungs https://open.spotify.com/track/6qlaUGfoKRMdhr9cBY3Xl8
1:30 and 3:30 are my favorite parts of the song, but overall solid song.

Earth: This one was hard to choose from... probably my favorite EP of the set.
Digging my Own grave reminds me a bit of Tom Waits and shows a maturity level of this band that I appreciate past their earlier work: https://open.spotify.com/track/5LyCtpTxbvflmKf0athIOi

Two songs from Beggars I like:
The World is Mad: That rhythm from the bass and drums tho... and then the lyrics/chorus are super solid.
https://open.spotify.com/track/4YnC1jIDar4lm6fmTfZhvm

Circles: Love the chill atmosphere and lyrics are super powerful for me: https://open.spotify.com/track/6kqMynysndFn2SVVI9GVq3

Two Songs from Major/Minor I like:
YellowBelly... possibly the most kick ass Baritone Guitar part ever:
https://open.spotify.com/track/6JDYZAGNugRKJ6jcQFtswA

Cataracts/Anthology: a little more upbeat/pop-punkish, but without the bad singing (sorry, one thing I don't dig about 2000s pop punk many tried to sound like Blink-182... we already have them, do something original):
https://open.spotify.com/track/1LLp9OBA1rY8UwjPRTSM0F
https://open.spotify.com/track/0WQmUtXZ7QgsYiWRjRF2rh

Then again I think you are more into the pop punk side of things and I less so... so then there's taste differences, but just wanted to give quick preview of what I do like about these albums.

Oh trust me, I'm well, well aware. Preferred Mene but this one's still real good

I think I listened to a song or two off of The Alchemy thing and was kind of underwhelmed, I don't even really remember it. If I listen to them it's generally The Artist in the Ambulance.

They're not bad, but whenever I start to listen to them I find myself throwing on another band instead (not just Brand New, oddly enough, but Thursday, Finch, Glassjaw, or Circa as well). I don't know why but we've never quite clicked.

I'll probably give the new album a listen through and then get distracted by the other music out there, which in some ways is a pity.

Just out of curiosity have you listened to any of the albums I listed?

I mean taste is taste, but just curious, cause I don't like their earlier stuff at all.
The reason why I'll wait a bit to listen to the album has not to do with any fear of anything christian that might be on the album. I Just haven't been listening to 2016 albums around their release date.

@benpaco Thrice was apart of the group of post hardcore bands that did become mainstream around the time that nu metal did too. At that time Thrice didn't click with me either, but for different reason than yours. I happened to just be into nu metal at the time. Now that I don't have anywhere near the passion for nu metal as I once did and have gotten into post hardcore, I just really don't listen to any of the bands from that era much. Which is something I probably should do more.

Ah ok... sorry. I totally realized my comment could have been understood dick like. In a nice way, I was just saying if it doesn't influence the music in very noticeable ways, I kinda don't care about personal life, but then again, some of the political stuff the bands I like (Rage Against the Machine) does add a layer to their music I enjoy that maybe, say, the Foo Fighters doesn't have.

I also admittedly went and read about it.
cool I guess that answers my question if there are any Thrice fans.

It was actually these three albums that got me into them... and for some reason people started to loose interest in them.

Probably doesn't help that a friend of mine and a guitarist I respect and was in a band with had this as his favorite band.

I think I also love their use of baritone guitars.

I don't care for their earlier stuff. Maybe Staring at the Sun and a couple songs off Vheisshu
I hated AIAA and the alchemy set, but vheisshu's pretty cool. like ben said though, anytime i put thrice on, i end up listening to someone else before long (brand new, mewithoutyou, circa, etc.).

@sethmadsen I was just saying that Dustin was involved with Mars Hill Church, which pissed some of his fans off.

Thrice will forever be to me the guys that wanted to be Brand New and just aren't quite.

Now as far as the new Thrice albums goes if I do listen to it, it'll likely be way after its release date.

Sorry... I didn't really read this with much thought other than I don't care about his personal life.

Are you trying to say you have a little bit of fear that the new album will have some psycho christian stuff going on? Cause yeah... that'd be kind of a buzz kill for me too... like burn all the abortion clinics down or we don't watch TV or listen to music because Jesus would be mad at us kind of psycho christian.

Normal Christian like this is actually pretty good (I pee a little when that lead guitar comes in AMAZBOMBS in tone):
Oh... interesting. I usually don't care about that stuff.

I saw this post that said Beck is inferior because he's a Scientologist. I honestly don't give a shit. I like Beck regardless. Muslim, Mormon, Scientologist, Psycho Christian Church, Satanist, Athiest... if they make good music and represent humanity in a way that transcends bullshit... I like them.

I didn't like early Thrice because that whole pop punk thing or whatever wasn't my cup of tea, but I do consider this a real piece of art (whatever that means). It's set of 4 EP's representing the original elements: Air, Water, Fire, and Earth.

Basically everything from this album onwards I've enjoyed.

Not like earth shattering the best music ever written enjoyed, but way better than some bland indie pop band.
