I would rather call Lucinda Williams folk but it is admittedly a fine line.

Also, no reason to laugh at Taylor Swift or anyone who likes her. She is a damn talented performer. Not a personal favorite, partly because I believe she is a bit too calculatingly targeting a teenage audience, (although I do own all her albums) but she is worthy of respect. The pathetic performance by a certain Mr. West on the Grammy awards is another reason to disrespect him though.

West was just being what he is.

Linda Ronstadt went from country to country rock and other genres in her career. She has 2 great albums from her country rock days that I listened to when they were released.

Heart Like A Wheel (1974) Her best album that stacks up well against just about anything.

Simple Dreams (1977) My personal favorite to listen to. Here is a song off of it.

I was going to say the album Behind Closed Doors by Charlie Rich (1973) but Naples listed it already. It really is one of the best country albums of all time. Here is one of the songs on the album.

I was in Nashville last summer and walked into this bar where a band was playing. They had a policy never to let the music stop so when the rest of the band took a break the singer was up there on his own and was taking requests. There weren't many people there so I suggested a couple of Texas artists, none of which he knew anything by, excusing himself with that he was one of the few performers in town actually born in Tennessee. So I said "Well, play some Billy Ray Cyrus then, he's from Tennessee", at which the singer replied "He's from Kentucky. And even if he was from Tennessee we wouldn't claim him". He went on to play a Hank Williams song.
