I don't see the fuss, but everyone around me seems to be sucking off Skrillex with a big ol' grin. Talk about a recycled sound though!

Yeah, at the college I went to this kind of thing was/is an epidemic. Me and my friends call it Brostep.

is anyone else in the states slightly disturbed by the influx of what a lot of college folk are calling dubstep? I always thought dubstep was characterized by wierd, seemingly offbeat time signatures on the drums, with an atmospheric side (e.g. Hyperdub groups) and a dance-y side (e.g. Night Slugs groups). Several people around me believe it's characterized by this single sound effect, regardless of how normal and under-pronounced the drums are. These same people have even told me they don't believe groups such as Burial or Kode9 are dubstep. wtf
