I wouldn't go quite this far - 'Something' is fine. But I've always been disappointed by Abbey Road. I agree with Ian McDonald's Revolution in the Head - he basically thinks that The Beatles peaked in 1966-1967.

I don't like the song organization on Revolver, but once I reorganized it to my liking I realized how much of a killer album it is, both historically and in song quality.

Abbey Road's second half is superb, a fantastic way to say goodbye, even if the suite was a one-man effort full of half-complete thoughts that don't explicitly tie together. The deal-breaker for me is the first half, it's saying something when Ringo's got the most memorable song of the bunch. 😜

Even though it has "Yellow Submarine," Revolver has my vote. Neither are my favorite from The Beatles--I much prefer Please Please Me and Rubber Soul. But yeah. Revolver. I love how self-referential it is.

Abbey Road. It's the the most cohesive Beatles album, and the one with the least weak tracks. I've said before on here that I don't think the Beatles had a completely killer album. The closest they come is Abbey Road. That being said, Revolver probably has better individual songs. Abbey Road doesn't have "Eleanor Rigby," "I'm Only Sleeping" "Taxman" "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "And Your Bird Can Sing."

Really, it comes down to the fact that by the time "The End" rolls around on Abbey Road, I'm more often than not in tears. It just has that effect on me that no other Beatles album does.

As much as I like Revolver, Abbey Road every time. It used to be my number one album on this site. Probably as much about quality as about nostalgia. I own my parents original copy on wax. It hung on my wall as a teenager. It reminds me of my father who has passed on. Etc. But that string of songs at the end... damn, every bit as good/intriguing as Sgt. Peppers, and for me non of the pop elements that make Revolver missing a bit of depth, even if the pop songs were ahead of their time.

Here's what I thought last time I listened to these albums: (Rating is just average of songs on album, yet I put in order equally rated albums according to what I like better, even if just slightly). Also rounded to match site ratings.

Egad! I did indeed forget the worst of them all is on Revolver! I guess I must have blocked that one out since Revolver remains my favorite overall.

Revolver by . . . well what's the biggest unit of measurement you can think of?

As much as the Beatles progressed from album to album, Revolver was the biggest leap of all

Revolver doesn't have any complete throwaways like Maxwell's Silver Hammer and it is experimental without devolving into completely drug addled gibberish like Come Together or silly children's tunes like Octopus's Garden. Revolver doesn't have those songs that could have been great, but drone on the same musical idea repetitively until they've worn out their welcome like I Want You or Carry That Weight (or yet again Come Together; yeah, that's a cool riff, but c'mon guys, mix it up a little).

Revolver all the way. I wouldn't be nearly as interested in the Beatles without this record. Abbey Road is good enough, but behind quite a few other Beatles records for me.

I don't like Revolver that much. It has very great songs in it, and I understand its historical value, but Abbey Road is just a better album overall; it gives me the chills everytime I finish listening to it.
