Yeah I felt like my top 100 was getting stale. I think this would be a good maintenance check once every 5 years or so, which I hopefully will follow through on. Plus, it really is a great nostalgia trip.

Almost done with my project. I've listened to almost all the albums in my (what was originally 200) top 250+. Took a little longer than I thought because I kept adding new additions, plus I wanted to give each album my full attention which was harder than it sounds since I've been so busy after graduation. I think a small handful of black metal albums are going break into the top 100, but I will know how many for sure once I finish scoring and tweaking the ranks on my spreadsheet.

Man, I remember when I couldn't stomach a black metal album. Now the genre is the majority of my metal listens.

In efforts to save some money and reorganize my charts, I've started a massive project of listening to my top 200+ favorite albums of all time and rating and ranking them accordingly in order to produce my most accurate top 100 chart. There are some albums on my charts I haven't heard in years, but I remember enjoying them so much that I always hesitate to move their position. Hopefully after this, I drop that bias and my top 100 chart will have a brand new face.

If anyone knows where I can find a relatively cheap CD copy or high quality (320kbps, FLAC, .wav) download I'd really appreciate that. Tried looking up any reissue info, but it seems like there are no plans for one as of yet. This is euphoric.

This is so damn good. I'd rank this as my third favorite Madlib project, behind Piñata and Madvillainy, of course, but better than Shades of Blue.

I've been placed in a music sharing group chat with a few of my classmates and, as much as I love them dearly, they only describe the music they share as "chill" like they lack any sort of descriptive vocabulary and it makes me shed a tear :'( but I don't say anything because as long as they're happy I'm happy 😄

Wow. Lately, I've been on a serious roll of great albums (with the only bad part being a pain in my wallet), but the streak keeps on going with the new Gas album. Thank you SuedeSwede, I honestly had no idea this guy was releasing a new project until you brought it up. The only other Gas projects I've listened to are Pop and Oktember, I still need to get to his other works, but so far I think this is my favorite project by him. It's dark, but not in the more sinister, disturbing sense. It's dark in the prettiest way possible. This project shimmers with utter brilliance. By no means is this an overwhelming albums, but it feels very emotional and surreal. He adds a nice pulsating beat to a few of the tracks and it helps keep me engaged with this nocturnal vibe I have going on inside my head. This is a VERY strong contender for my AOTY, don't be surprised if it is.

Dopethrone by Electric Wizard

Here's an album that has been discussed enough amongst forum regulars, but recent revisits have augmented my love immensely.

Along with shoegaze, I've been pretty obsessed with ambient dub and stoner metal. The atmosphere these genres create has been satisfying this unending hunger I have been having for ethereal, lush, distorted, and druggy moods. Most of the stoner metal I've been listening to lately is more instrumental heavy, which makes it great studying music in my opinion. It don't find myself getting distracted and the energy keeps me up. I wanted to bring up Dopethrone in my diary because it's so damn perfect. It's continually regarded as one of the heaviest albums ever; the riffs are monstrous and overwhelming; the dark, sludgy guitars are orgasmic; the harsh vocals fit in so well; the hypnotic moments on this album are captivating- I can go on, but I don't think anything I'd say would be new and no description could suffice for its awesomeness. I couldn't help but tack on a perfect score for this essential metal album. Happy 4/20, bruhs.

Oh yeah, that one is pretty af as well. The length somewhat gets me, but the final 4 or 5 tracks really deliver and make up for it.

Honestly, I don't think I've heard a more beautiful shoegaze album. It's like if My Bloody Valentine was a band of angels instead of humans. Yeah, it's distorted, fuzzy, somewhat messy, but it's so. freakin'. gorgeous. This album sounds like being on LSD in a glass building with many walls structured at different angles and with different indexes of refraction and brilliant, bright spectrums pour through each wall creating the most gorgeous cascade of light that showers over your body which happens to be floating in zero gravity. Take that sentence for what it is. "crushing" just illuminates my soul, "darkglassdloideyes" makes me feel like I'm hovering above the world at the same altitude as the ISS. I think a decent number of people forum regulars have listened to this album, but for the newbies who haven't, do yourself a solid and go to projektrecords's bandcamp and listen to this shoegaze masterpiece.
