The 90s were great but my favourite decade of music is 86-95. The Smiths, Nirvana, Puxies, REM (Life's Rich Pageant thru to Monster - what a run), Sonic Youth (their best work was late 80s and early 90s), Beastie Boys (Licensed to Ill thru to Ill Communication), Public Enemy and NWA so influential in this time, shoegaze and early britpop, etc. The early 80s not so great, later 90s lost it's way a bit but late 80s to early 90s is where it's at for me.
Also gotta say I'm loving this current decade too but there is a lot of 90s influence at the moment so that makes sense.

The final day for my newest favorite singer, Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys that is, took place in 1998 and so to me, what came from him before then is what makes the decade so special, I love him so much. 😢 😢 😢
Despite my changes in taste, my favorite music throughout the years has always been skewed towards the '70s and the '90s. If I had to guess why, I would say that it probably correlates to the maturation of rock and atonal jazz in the '70s and the growing prevalence and sophistication of digital technology in the '90s and musicians' reactions to that. I think these kind of miniature paradigm shifts that occurred in the way we view music, one social and the other technological, produced very exciting music

Definitely not, although I may have thought so at the time as a deluded teenager... Still not as bad as the 80s.

Ranks behind the 1970s and 2000s in my top 100, with the 2010s sure to surpass it if this decade continues to be good.

Probably my least favorite decade--either that or the '00s.

In reality, my full decade down period straddles the two, running from the mid 90s through themid 00's . Really very little for me there relative to what came before and after, especially in rock, at least as far as the big names go. If it wasn't for Jazz, New Age, and World Music, it would be a lost decade.

I can't choose a decade that's before the advent of hip hop, and the 90's has some of my favorite hip hop, electronic, and rock music.

So, yes, the 1990's definitely is and always will be my favorite. 80's are a close second though.

Depends, i often think it was the best decade for electronic music and a big Improvement over the 80s for rock music. But the 70s and 60s really over-shadow the h90s for Rock. Although there was much more good rock music in the 90s than there is today. Rock is just a shadow of its former self.

The thread title asks were the '90s 'the best decade for music?' But poll question asks were the '90s 'the most radical generation for music'? So what exactly are we supposed to answer? Because to be 'good' and to be 'radical' are different things.

Anyway the '90s are my favorite decade for music.

Plus my favourite album of all time was released in '93.

The 1990s were a great decade, maybe even the best overall for Rock. When some of its most universally acclaimed albums are excellent but not even close to its best works (Ok Computer, Nevermind, In Utero, The Soft Bulletin...), good chance it's a hell of a decade. But throughout music history there are others Id rank higher (even if less prolific), due to so many of history's greatest masterpieces emerging. The 1820s for instance, comes immediately to mind.

When I think of it, the 90s had some fantastic music....it also had some of the worst....but still! Some phenomenol stuff came out then and to an extent I think the 90s overshadow a lot of music today. But was it really the best decade for music? I don't know to be honest. Part of me says yes but for different reasons.
