this release from the smile got me convinced it's time for radiohead to hang up the skates and let thom and jonny move on to the smile for good. don't get me wrong. i loved a moon shaped pool, the king of limbs, and in rainbows. thoroughly. but this is the most exciting t&j collaboration we've gotten since hail to the thief. skinner is a much better drummer than phil, and while i love what ed and colin bring to the table, they're not all that missed. which kind of surprises me. but also, recency bias.

Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac is wildly overrated (not necessarily on BEA specifically, but in general) by people who think that admitting that Rumours is their masterpiece will make them less cool.

Due to how things went with him at one point, my newest favorite act may fall into the controversial category. Northern Calloway is the name of the singer, and eight of the twelve songs from his one and only album came from his heart, mind, and soul including the first two and the final three. If the name doesn't ring a bell, anyone here who is no stranger to the early days of the Sesame Street children's TV show will know him as David. Anyway, I was born in 1982 and so I grew up with the show, but I only just recently discovered this album of his voice, and all that it has done along with everything else of him that I have found online is make me wish that I had been born sooner. Why? Sadly, Northern is another one of the many who is no longer with us. I was only seven years old when his final day happened. Anyway, to me, the album only gets better with every listen. P.S. To me, Northern was and still is the complete and total package and even though I am well aware of how sad and questionable his last few years are, his decision to stay with a children's show for so long in my opinion only showed how well intended Northern was. How can I not wish with all that I have in me that the beautiful masterpiece of a precious gentleman was still here with us?

Speaking of Weezer; Van Weezer was one of the best albums of last year and OK Human was pop filler the album.

This song holds a special place in my heart, so it's definitely close to my favorite Weezer song if not my favorite. (Though I'm by no means "ride or die" for Weezer).

I won tickets to see Weezer back in 2009 after hearing this song on the radio and then calling into the station. Or... I almost won tickets, after I connected and was talking to the folks about logistics before being put on the air (I think?), I drove through an area without cell service, lost the station, and while I was driving without service I heard the DJ giving the tickets to someone else 🙁

This led to 2 fairly substantial changes in my life:
1. I practiced way safer driving practices lol. I stopped using my cell when driving, from then on I'd always pull over until eventually I got a car with Bluetooth/hands-free.
2. I became an absolute MACHINE at calling into radio stations after this. Between 2009 and 2015 I must've gone to dozens of free shows. That was the golden age of concerts for me, I still enjoy live music but not as much as I used to. I think maybe I burnt myself(/my ears) out. Still haven't seen Weezer yet.

So this leads me to my maybe controversial opinion? Concerts are better when they're free/spur of the moment. The anticipation is huge when I get $100+ tickets purchased a year in advance, only to see the band play in a huge stadium with awful acoustics. Some of the best concerts I've ever been to were day-of decisions to see an unheard of band simply because I had $30 and an open Friday night schedule.

Also maybe controversial: outdoor acoustics are better in public parks than in sports stadiums/arenas. I definitely don't have any science to back this up, so I could be legitimately wrong, but that's my impression.

Agreed. It's probably my least favourite of their albums overall, but contains my favourite of their songs.

To me, personal life and music are two totally different things. A shit human being can make good music. An amazing human being can make boring mediocre music. I care about music, not the person. Burzum is a great example.
