Once you get into it Humbug is miles and miles better than anything else they've done. They proved that they are a serious band with real staying power. Not just one of these bands like the Kaiser Chiefs or Bloc Party cashing in on the Strokes success.

I don't get the big deal about Arctic Monkeys.

I mean, what did they really innovate? Whatever People Say I Am came out in 2006, and stylistically it wasn't that different from the indie and garage rock albums that had come out earlier in the decade.

Aside from the album's innovative promotion and distribution, I just don't get it.

That was a good post, Andy. Arctic Monkeys are in an entirely diffrent leauge then all those strokes-rip-offs. But, i still find Humbug to be very unexciting and feels like they just leaped to a more wierder sound just to keep away from 'shit sounds the same' cliches..

1. Humburg 85/100 - not better or worse than "Whatever" just different
2. Whatever people say 85/100
3. Suck It And See 80/100 - more mainstream (not as edgy or dark) than preceding albums
4. Favourite Worst Nightmare 70/100 - similar to but not as strong as "Whatever"

Humbug is my favorite.

IMO the Arctic Monkeys took a chance with exploring and widening there musical realm with Humbug.

And it payed off nicely by working.

They could have just done what many other bands did and just keep trying to remake there older and successful albums but they chose to take a chance and blaze down another trail.

That shows me that the Arctic Monkeys are not only for real.

It shows me that they plan on sticking around a long time.

And in this day and age, for a very good band, that is a good thing. 😁

Is it too early to conclude that their latest effort sucks?
In comparison to their previous records that is.

Their debut is probably the defining moment of British indie in the 00's but I'm voting for Humbug
