People have a right to be exhausted and comment in a way that doesn’t incite personal attacks. Of course, negative comments will be received as they likely will but I remind you that I or others are not “bullying” of any sort – we are expressing our exhaustion with discussing the subject many times before. Is our commentary productive or constructive? Maybe not. But sometimes earnest positivity isn’t either. Negative comments have provoked more interesting discussion on this forum than the inverse in my experience.

Sure - I actually didn't say the word bullying, another user did. I said a form of group elitism.

But fantastic ideas/points.

This probably should be flagged for Albummaster... it's actually what brought me to want to do the ADP thing.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a place to discuss, not just post, on the album/band page?

Absolutely not. This is exactly the problem - you should be able to ask this question and so should the next new user. Some users are just sick of hearing it because they've been in the forums for 5 years straight and this same question has been asked 4934u94393q84253 times before.

I suppose something like this would be helpful, but I don't think it actually would stop people complaining (and as GOWI stated, this isn't a problem either - other than the fact that it makes new users feel like they aren't welcome) about reviving an old thread asking the same question- search feature for previous topics:

Looks like I missed out due to being extra busy this week. However, being my username is "StreetSpirit" (I've considered changing my username) I feel somewhat obliged to give my two cents a couple days late.

Radiohead has three, no more and no less, masterpieces...The Bends, OK Computer, and Kid A. Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief are decent. In Rainbows is perhaps the most overrated album I've ever listened to (not saying it's bad). King of Limbs is boringly mediocre. And I'm willing to bet A Moon-Shaped Pool is nothing special. #2 band of all-time? I don't care because ranking bands is stupid.

Ok now my two cents on repetitive threads. This reminds me of the uproar this thread caused last year:

That was a list thread and a Beatles thread...boring piece of shit 🪦 But as I stated in that thread, I don't mind talking about the Radiohead or The Beatles but it has to be something interesting. Simply whining about them being overrated, making a list thread of them, or using a thread to masturbate to them isn't interesting. Definitely don't ever do the latter two. But if you don't like something about Radiohead, don't be afraid to speak up. Just be specific, try to encourage discussion, and don't come off as a complainer. And to older users tired of seeing the same topics, heavily advise newer users to revive old threads instead of starting new ones. And as always, you can start a new topic about something you want to talk about.

Remarkable musicianship, super tight chemistry, relatable/quotable/timeless lyrics, innovative instrumentation, solid production, longevity, etc, etc.... I dont think they're overrated. I think they are head and shoulders better than most/all "modern bands" (90s-2000s). It's just hard for me to compare them to the Beatles, Zeppelin, Doors, Pink Floyd, and so on, because of the huge generational gap... To me its a lot like comparing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Kobe Bryant... Two great HOF players, but they're completely different. Idk thats just me though.

With all due respect, in my experience NMH, Velvet Underground and The Doors don't take much work to assimilate. They're in a very similar ballpark to Radiohead by my estimation.

Though I wouldnt agree if we're talking WL/WH and VU and Nico, but probably would agree in regards to the rest of these artists discographies, this wasnt really the point of what I was saying. There are plenty of greater artists/works that are as or less challenging to assimilate than Radiohead.

VU's and The Doors' masterpieces, and NMHs Aeroplane are, in my estimation, much more singular and amazing events in the history of Rock than any album by Radiohead (though Ok Computer, Kid A and Amnesiac are all great)

Why Radiohead?

Because they capture a good balance between "popular music" and "creative/experimental" without making listeners work much to assimilate it. That's pretty much it. They're superb for a band that is as popular as they are (superb and popular are a rare combo).

They're best work is basically a reincarnation of Pink Floyd's 70s period, with some Eno (and/or Berlin period Bowie) and late Talk Talk for added flavor.

I don't mind the 800th thread about blah blah blah. I simply just ignore it. If there is a thread that doesn't interest me I just ignore it. It's easy.

No need to shoot down a newer user/less "aware" user. Simply put: You don't have to put someone down for discussing something they are interested in.

And to be fair bullying didn't happen, but a little bit of group elitism did - hey we old timers are done with the fact that people want to talk about blah blah blah. We are too good for this. Ok, nobody gives a shit about that either - keep it to yourself and move on to something you are interested in discussing on the forums.

Instead of wasting time posting - dis dumb we talk about it 23453242 times - nobody cares, well then the old timers maybe could create content that's a bit more interesting to talk about?

I think we had a Controversial Opinions thread, which was largely inane but at least it kept out a bunch of "x, y or z band is overrated, I don't get it" threads, so maybe there should just be a new, similar, all-encompassing "overrated bands" thread so the music forums don't become a broken-record of trite discussions about why Radiohead or The Beatles, the only 2 bands in existience, are/aren't as great as their reputation.

Though really I think it may seem pertinent for a topic like this for someone who's relatively new to BEA (or really music forums in general, cuz you go anywhere discussing music in general and you're sure to come across a discussion of Radiohead Being Overrated), but if you've been here awhile it's like "enough, already" and can have the forums give off a bit of a static, insular feel.

Well done for having the guts to post this thread.

It is good to shake up opinions and challenge the musical canon of holy opinions on BEA. I feel I can say that, I think I've been on here a year now.

I am a fan of Radiohead, I was entranced with their live set at Glastonbury here in the cloudy UK this summer and I have all the albums and a good deal of the singles. I'm a fan. But I agree with you: no. 2 rating on BEA may be a tad high at this moment in time.

That is not to say a band from the 90s can't occupy a high position on BEA's all-time artists. Heck, a music artist from this decade could if they were good enough. Doesn't always have to be classic bands from the 60s/70s that score highly.

However with myself I find Radiohead fluctuate between being my 3rd favourite act of all time to being as low as my 6th favourite depending in what mood I am in. Yes imo they have written and produced some classic albums and songs. But, in the light of all the other great artists out there are they really number 2 of all time? OK, many people think so on here obvs but I really don't believe they are quite as high up as that and despite its brilliance I don't feel that OK Computer is the best album ever. But it is definitely original, inspiring and groundbreaking. And Radiohead have consistently been at the cutting edge of indie/ alt-rock music for decades and have embraced many different genres of music.

I suggest another post to settle it. What are your all-time favourite music artists, top 10?
