I have childhood memories of 'Not Great Men' by Gang of Four being on an advert for something here in the UK. I immediately recognised it when I first heard Entertainment

someone used Modest Mouse's Gravity Rides Everything back before Isaac Brock's Float On was ever a thing. i'm lazy, so i'm not looking up who what where when why.

and Kishi Bashi wrote a terrible song about meat for some commercial. i'm not sure if that counts though, since it was a commissioned piece.

My absolute favourite case of this - "If I Were With Her Now" off Spiritualized's Lazer Guided Melodies being used for a late 90s UK TV ad for Toffee Crisp.

We also had Joanna Newsom's "This Side Of The Blue" being used to sell mobile phones.
