Truth. It was an almost shamanic moment. Her non-DSotM stuff is nice too, although it doesn't really compare.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think I read one mention of Aretha Franklin. I command all BEA to get at least two of her early albums now, and listen to that voice on a pair of decent headphones, especially on some of the slower gospel-tinged numbers. Oh, my God! When it comes to female singers, there's Aretha Franklin and then there's everyone else. Here's my list of favorites:

I've gotta say Amy Winehouse takes first for me. Again, not a huge fan of the way a female singing voice usually sounds, so my choices may be unconventional.

And if you are only thinking of voice as an instrument, you have to mention Pat Benatar, she also has a classically trained operatic voice.

Whitney Houston, the gals in ABBA, Barbara Streisand, Miranda Lambert....I also love Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, etc.
The female voice is so beautiful and angelic.
