This album and most of the singles from Californication are what got me into the Chili Peppers in the first place and probably also what led me to stop listening to them (although Blood Sugar will always have a special place in my heart). I'll blame the radio for that, though. Looking through the track list for Stadium Arcadium, my thoughts are pretty much "damn, there are so many absolute classic hits here," and at the same time I wouldn't want to listen to any of them because I'm so sick of them.

Yeah even the build up part before the solo is incredible (the "you don't form in the wet sand" part) and one of the rare ocassions where I really enjoy Anthony's voice.

The thing I've always appreciated about the Peppers is that they have a ton of musicianship and writing ability, but sometimes it's hard to recognize as they have never taken themselves incredibly serious. There's a humor and charisma to their music that's only possible because of their chemistry with each other.

Flea is an incredible bass player and an innovator of the instrument. John Frusciante is one of my favorite guitar players because of how he layers his parts and uses the guitar as a true voice. Chad Smith is a great drummer also. However, Anthony Kiedes is not a great singer in any traditional sense. I very much like his voice and he has written some great lyrics, but he's not about to belt out a classical piece or be in competition with Freddie Mercury in any fan polls. It wouldn't be RHCP without any of them however and that's my favorite thing about the band.

RHCP were my first band ever, when I was 5-6. Very young. Stadium and By the Way along with several songs from Blood Sugar and Californication were played day and night for years... Ah childhood. I haven't listened to some of the deeper cuts for years... And I've grown tired of most of the hits, so I don't think there'll be many here.
Thank you for the kind words! I intend to keep going, love seeing everyone's thoughts on here.

Trust me, you aren't the only one with nostalgia tied to RHCP's music. I only got into them in the latter half of high school, but there are many friends, moments, and memories since then that are connected to their music. Many brilliant moments flooding back as I type.

Solid single disc take on Stadium also!

Stadium Arcadium has been my favourite RHCP album ever since it came out.
I haven't listened to it for 2 years but when it was released, i couldn't stop playing it for at least 12 months.
Yes, I agree, it is lenghty. But I found that every song was well done except maybe 1, at the most 2.

I never found RHCP serious musicians- the group was best known for lunkheaded stunts like posing with
socks on their private parts while lampooning the cover of the Beatles Abby Road.
In the early 90s they were one of the worlds most popular bands- can you believe this?
at woodstock 1994 they all undressed on stage with giant light bulbs on their heads.
Do you think it had anything to do with heroin??

Finally, the lineup seemed settled later on, when john frusciante came back.

Another interesting tidbit- the album won a grammy for best album in 2007.
Not that winning a grammy means a hell of a lot.

So U2 didn't do a double album when they had material for Achtung Baby and Zooropa. I know a lot of people dog Zooropa, but if you were to tell me I had to choose between those two albums... idk. That'd be near impossible for me as well. Just wouldn't be the same.

Sure there's more amazing tracks than others, but that's just it, a good album actually has highs and lows and twists and turns.

Well, first of all thank you for bringing the romantic nostalgia to my life.

1. Dani California
2. Snow
3. Stadium Arcadium
4. Strip My Mind
5. Especially In Michigan
6. Wet Sand
7. Hey
8. Desecration Smile
9. Tell Me Baby
10. Hard To Concentrate
11. She Looks To Me
12. Readymade
13. So Much I
14. Death Of A Martian

Well it isn't as hit free as I thought 😄 And it was very hard as well.

But the funkier stuff like Charlie, Hump De Bump, and especially C'mon Girl i would not miss at all. Death of a Martian was probably my hardest cut.

I love Charlie especially how it follows Snow, undeniable chorus. Same how the title track follows Charlie. I had to keep that part of the record in tact as it means too much for me. Certainly feel you on C'mon Girl though, alright track, nothing special at all.

Death of a Martian I had to include personally because I love Ant's bantering lyrics at the end to close to record. Also with it being about the death of Flea's dog makes it pretty sentimental to me. Losing a dog is tough as fuck.

Holy shit. I was just driving home listening to some tracks from Use Your Illusion II I hadn't heard in forever, thinking about doing a thread for the UYI's ( at 4 EST when BEA's AOTD switches). How strange. That's the biggest coincidence that's happened to me in a good while 😲 hahaha
Definitely interested in hearing peoples thoughts on the Illusion records. Same with the Queen records and a few others in mind.

I had the same thought about it being a bit mellow while making mine. I do think the consistently great stuff on Stadium is more mellow though. I tried fitting Hard To Concentrate on my track list but thought it would be a touch too mellow with what I had going haha. I do think it's a very poignant love song though.

The hardest part was cutting out the last four tracks, which I do enjoy. But the funkier stuff like Charlie, Hump De Bump, and especially C'mon Girl i would not miss at all. Death of a Martian was probably my hardest cut.

I'll trim down some albums I still kind of like.

Californication: Omit the last 3 tracks. End with Savior, that's a good album closer. Purple Stain is meh, and Right on Time brings nothing to the album. Road Trippin' is ok, but I don't think it would be that much of a loss.

By The Way: Omit I Could Die For You, Midnight, Cabron. Now the albums 12 minutes shorter, under an hour.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik: Omit My Lovely Man, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, If You Have to Ask. Boom album is under an hour.

Even when I was going through the Chili Pepper phase (doesn't everyone) I thought their albums were way too long.
1. Snow (Hey Oh)
2. Stadium Arcadium
3. She’s Only 18
4. Slow Cheetah
5. Torture Me
6. Strip My Mind
7. Especially In Michigan
8. Wet Sand
9. Hey
10. Desecration Smile
11. Tell Me Baby
12. Hard To Concentrate
13. She Looks To Me
14. Make You Feel Better

Just realized this would be a really mellow album. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
