Big up. In fact whilst spinning some classic rocksteady in the car earlier I completely realised that I'd forgotten to mention The Frightnrs, whose take on late 60s JA vibes is first-rate. Their one and only LP - Nothing More To Say - was released on Daptone a couple of years back with the dubs following a year later. The singer unfortunately passed away before the LP came out but if you like a more chilled-out vibe or the originators of the style such as the Heptones, Alton Ellis, Slim Smith as well as Studio One/Treasure Isle in general you'd love it. It's killer:

If you're anything like me and have a hankering for classic 70s roots then there's little these days that's comparable to the likes of Yabby, Culture, classic Burning Spear, Jacob Miller et al.

Then again, some long-established acts are still around and turning out surprisingly good stuff. Danny Red's last album is a classic case in point (which I picked up when we had a BEA day out in London during a stop-over in Brixton to see the Bowie mural).

Skinny - you might like this too, given your love of Chantells/Phase One. First track's on the Send Another Moses riddim...

Spin it here...

There's Alpha and Omega too - consistently good for 20+ years, although their last album (with Ras Tinny) wasn't my cup of tea, but you might like it.

Alborosie - on Greensleeves - is as close to a 21st century Burning Spear as you'll find. Look him up (production's a bit cheesy but he's great).

Have a lot of time for SeekersInternational, a Canadian collective who continuously turn out great records, although a little more dub/jungle/breakbeat than roots.

Don't forget the Rhythm & Sound collective too - With The Artists is a great LP - really chilled digireggae/lovers (the Lovejoys track is ace and rivals their Wackies-era stuff - see vid below:)
Sizzla had some dope records back in the '90s and 2000s, specifically Black Woman & Child, Waterhouse Redemption, I-Space, Praise Ye Jah, Da Real Thing.

Is any quality reggae or Jamaican influenced music being made in this century? My favorite sub genre of reggae is roots and I was wondering if any of you knew of any quality acts making this kind of music nowadays?

I know of Groundation and Joseph Israel and I enjoy both of them. I am also familiar with Soldiers of Jah Army (SOJA) because my roommates really likes them, but they aren't really roots.

Any recommendations would be extremely helpful!
