I agree 100%. If he doesn't want to discuss it, that should be the end of it. The problem arises when he jumps into calling the question offensive when it wasn't inherently offensive and he just chose to receive it as such. I tire of people jumping straight to playing the victim when no attack was offered.

A better question would be whether or not we dismiss a certain artist's talent based on how they look. I find that many people (perhaps not on here) regard those who are 'more attractive' as people who are incapable at having any other talent at all, particularly (women) in the film industry. Has there ever been an artist you're all like 'they're too attractive/sexual to be considered cool'?

There have definitely been cases in recent memory where the artistic quality of overtly sexual material has come up... when Elfriede Jelinek won the Nobel there was an uproar. I find no issue in oversexualization in the music industry as long as the music's good. Someone like Prince definitely comes to mind, perhaps Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, etc...

And Britney's definitely had more misses than hits, but Toxic's still a banger.

Saying as though the definition of pornography is something that is made purely for sexual arousal, not artistic value, then a lot of music would not fit that definition, case closed. However, if an artist's attire, attitude, etc. are meant to provoke lust, and only lust, and it has nothing to do with the artistic value of their music or character, then I could see it fit a definition of being pornographic. That does not happen very often though, and I can't remember the last time any music gave me a boner, so I can't say I've had to avoid anything for being overtly sexual before.

Funny, it looked to me a lot like an honest question from someone who is admitting straight up he doesn't know, and is honestly trying to understand, and asking for assistance in doing so.

Maybe I'm just too naive to see that rkw is really just another homophobe using the internet to spread his hate, but I really don't think so. Everybody just assuming the worst, in spite of clear evidence to the contrary, is getting old.

I apologise. I was just trying to understand something that I clearly don’t understand. My post was more expressing the limitation of my understanding, and not intended to illegitimise your life experience or intended to offend you.

The psychological crossover of sexuality, spirituality and music is something that fascinates me, but I’m gonna shut up now.

But seriously - name 5 artists in the top 100 ranked artists on this site who are obese. There are thousands upon thousands of obese musicians, I'm not saying there aren't and I'm not saying they can't be successful and I'm not saying they aren't good musicians.

Not obese, but surely not GQ cover material: Don't have to think to hard. Bob Dylan. Neil Young. Tom Petty. No shortage of homely dudes rockin' the charts and garnering critical musical acclaim.

But I get your point. Physical attractiveness is well correlated with success in just about any field, not just music or even other showbiz related fields. It certainly allows the less talented to rise higher than they would otherwise (which was the point of my first post in this thread that got everybody's panties in a wad).

But then again, the right musical persona can make a person sexy in the eyes of many, even if he wouldn't get a second glance without the mic or guitar. Without the musical persona, I doubt Mick Jaggar would be banging supermodels left and right if he was, say, a bricklayer or accountant meeting broads in a bar, even though his physical appearance would be the same. Most women will tell you Rik Ocasik is homely as a mud post aside from his music, but he landed a beaut. Billy Joel and Christy Brinkley, Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts, on and on it goes.

Yada yada yada. Outliers to the rule that generally speaking, we wear fancy clothes, get ur hur did, etc. because there is an undeniable influence of how things look.

I'm not a specialist on the subject. I'm just suggesting that ignoring said concepts and saying they are objectively wrong ignores a whole body of social science that says otherwise.
