Link

I never knew that about the girls from Fanny being on this album. Fanniy were a pretty good band even though they never made a really good album. But they were great on other people's records. Particularly on Stoney End. They were awesome in fact.

Indeed, "Stoney End" by Barbra Streisand is cool, Fanny rocks 'n' rolls, especially on "Charity Ball" & "Butter Boy"!

Fanny was one of the first notable rock groups to be made up entirely of women, the third to sign with a major label (after Goldie & the Gingerbreads and the Pleasure Seekers), and the first to release an album on a major label (in 1970).

In a 1999 interview with Rolling Stone, Fanny fan David Bowie revealed his respect for the band:

One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest... rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary... they're as important as anybody else who's ever been, ever; it just wasn't their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done.

Yeah, their playing is awesome on Stoney End. Particularly the drummer. She was awesome on that.

I'd attended the fan club only Zoom Tour Live concerts on May 23-24, 2001, at CBS Television City in Hollywood, California.

Jeff Lynne is doing well, but Richard Tandy, Kelly Groucutt, Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell, Mel Gale & Louis Clark are all sorely missed.

My favorite ELO lineup contains Lynne, Tandy, Bev Bevan, Kelly, Mik, Hugh, and Mel... Classic ELO. I was listening to A New World Record earlier today and was like "damn, listen to that bassline" there are so many things that make their music catchy. Lyrics, vocals, melodies, riffs, basslines, strings, etc etc... Bev Bevan really booms too

Yeah, that's Electric Light Orchestra's definitive lineup. I somehow forgot Bev Bevan. Too bad Zoom, Alone in the Universe and their respective concerts didn't have all of these great guys!

Louis Clark, "nothing less than the constructor of the symphonic seal of ELO."

I'm still angry at the 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination/induction committee for snubbing those former ELO members along with Mike de Albuquerque, Wilf Gibson, Mike Edwards and Colin Walker!

I'd rank State of Mind and Melting in the Sun with those other two from ZOOM! You didn't have Along in the Universe ranked on any of your charts from 2015 or 2010s that's why I was asking.

I'll give those two a listen! And you're right I must have missed it! I haven't really paid close attention to my 2010s decade or year charts, I haven't got there yet! Working on it right now. But Alone In The Universe will definitely be on there.
It looks like there just might be a 2018 35th Anniversary release sometime between June-August of Secret Messages by Electric Light Orchestra on Sony/BMG's Legacy Recordings as its originally intended 18 track double album from 1983!

A New World record is in my opinion Electric Light Orchestra's finest album alongside Out Of The Blue and my personal favorite, but its hard to choose any of them. I don't think Jeff Lynne wrote a bad song from Eldorado to Discovery... Seriously... They are that good. So many hits it seems like every album had a handful of recognizable songs. I could go on and on...

A New World Record nearly a perfect record, every song on there is great. Even the deep cut Mission (A World Record) is a slow building thriller about as psychedelic as ELO gets. I really do love of Elo's work though so this is just my personal favorite. Face The Music was among the first records I ever bought and is where my love for ELO began. On The Third Day, Discovery, and Eldorado came next shortly after one another. I didn't even discover A New World Record or Out Of The Blue until months after I started listening to them (of course I had heard Mr. Blue Sky before...) So I bought those records and fell in love as you'd expect.

Telephone Line is probably my favorite ELO song. So catchy, so dramatic, so relatable. Timeless. Rockaria does just that and rocks out. Mission is a change of pace. It has a spacey intro before breaking into a funky bassline and classic Lynne vocals. Every song after that, outside of Livin Thing, are vastly underrated on this site. If you like ELO, then So Fine is like one of your favorite songs.. Shangri-La is a beautiful, heartbreaking, love song. And Do Ya only has an 83? I think all the songs sit around an 85 with the highest being a 90-95 and lowest being an 80.

1. A New World Record
T1. Out Of The Blue
3. Face The Music
T3. Eldorado
5. On The Third Day
6. Discovery
7. ELO I
8. Time
9. ELO II
10. Secret Messages
11. Balance of Power

IMO, easily the best ELO from end to end. Great songs one and all with no missteps. Love the hits and the deep cuts. Typically lavish ELO production but without overdoing it. Effectively crafted mood throughout. I love something about every ELO album but I love everything about this one.

Speaking of Face the Music, Ellie Greenwich, SuMagNa AKA Susan Collins, Margaret (Marge) Raymond, Nancy O'Neill sang uncredited backing vocals on that album, they even went on tour with Electric Light Orchestra for various dates!

That was cool. I always thought that it looked like one of those old "bubbler" jukeboxes, they used to call them. They were like old 1950s jukeboxes with these big colored tubes on them. Used to see them in old movies and s***.

This is Casey Kasem on American Top 40 in Hollywood, and now I have the latest hit by an English group who have found one of the most unusual theatrical gimmicks yet for a rock and roll concert, the group is, The Electric Light Orchestra, and we got the story from drummer Bev Bevan who tells it this way, at the end of their concert in Los Angeles last August the group returned for a final encore, and right in the middle of their song, the audience saw a huge hot air balloon rise up from behind the stage, it sailed over the audience up around 200 feet, and it had a large mirrored revolving globe dangling from its underside, then, 4 laser guns shot thick rays of green light at the ball as it slowly whirled around, creating the effect of millions of green raindrops falling all over the audience, and the surrounding hills, well the crowd went wild, and so did the local residents who looked outside and saw this, huge, eerie, green revolving ball of light hovering over the hills, well Bev Bevan said the police switchboard was swamped with phone calls from hundreds of frightened people who thought that they were witnessing the landing of a flying saucer, fortunately the group was prepared for that kind of reaction and they warned the police department in advance to tell folks exactly what it was, well we can chalk that one up as one of the most unusual gimmicks ever used at a rock and roll concert, by The Electric Light Orchestra, their current hit is moving up the chart at #19 this week, and it's titled, Livin' Thing - Casey Kasem's American Top 40 from December 18th, 1976

Casey Kasem said that the Electric Light Orchestra is the "World's first touring rock 'n' roll chamber group" before he played "Livin' Thing" at #28. - Casey Kasem's American Top 40 from January 29th, 1977
I never knew that about the girls from Fanny being on this album. Fanniy were a pretty good band even though they never made a really good album. But they were great on other people's records. Particularly on Stoney End. They were awesome in fact.
