"The Climb" by Miley Cyrus-I especially like the version I heard years ago on American Idol by Haeley Vaughn, fighting back tears as she had just been voted off the show.

Her performance isn't an according to Hoyle great performance & she was very young from what I remember (15? 16?), but the raw emotion she was feeling is palpable & moving to me, & perfectly fitting to the lyric content.

There are tons of tracks I really like that I guess might be considered "embarrassing" by a lot of people.

"I want it that way" by Backstreet Boys.
"Genie in a bottle" by Christina Aguilera.
"Style" by Taylor Swift.
"Die young" by Kesha.
"Sorry" by Justin Bieber.
"Temperature" by Sean Paul.
Dozens of reggaeton songs.

I could go on and on. But hey, I'm not ashamed at all. On the contrary, I embrace it proudly. You should never feel guilty for liking a song.

Probably the whole album of Mylo Xyloto but I’m only a little embarrassed. I used to love it more than any other album and I still think it’s a great record even though people despise it. It just holds so many memories.

well that sounds a bit absurd to me, why is passive in there? a lot of movements in music have been motivated in part by people feeling like the popular spaces have no place for them and partially defining themselves in opposition with what they make. That spirit of rebellion is a part of a lot of great creativity and you have to have listeners with that spirit for the music to get off the ground. none of that is passive.

oh I'm not saying anyone is liking something because they were told to. I'm saying that things are popular because a lot of people like them. So it seems weird to be like "yeah I'm a rebel, I like things that are loved across the world"
