Snip...

You would do well to start with bobbyb's post, so many excellent records listed here.

I'd also recommend anything by Broadcast & Bjork, these being my favorite from each:

The Noise Made By People by Broadcast

Vespertine by Bjork

I would feel remiss if I did not recommend Paper Bird, particularly their first "record", only available as a digital download:

Anything Nameless And Joymaking by Paper Bird

A record I never read or hear folks mention, but I find amazing is Queen of Siam:

Queen of Siam by Lydia Lunch

Oh, & I can't forget Young Marble Giants & Weekend:

Colossal Youth by Young Marble Giants

La Variete by Weekend
Alison Statton is so underrated!

I used to have that Lydia Lunch album. I remember liking it, although the only song I really remember is something about Bongo Beat.
I love that one.

Pretenders by The Pretenders

"Pretenders" & "Learning to Crawl" are their strongest work. No argument.

Females and Males make equal contributions to music in modern times (2018), just not in classical music, where I've heard Females were discouraged. Also my 70s decades chart is heavily male dominated for some reason (The scourge of Rock?) I do think Men are better at chess though...

Nico - Chelsea Girl
PJ Harvey - Is This Desire?
Cocteau Twins - Heaven & Las Vegas

My other choices such as Blue and Ys have already been mentioned 😄

Edit: also remembered Anna Von Hausswolff - Dead Magic, half of Dead Can Dance songs have female vocals, and some of other dream pop stuff like Beach House is entirely female vocals

Wow, I'm suprised no one has brought up Sleater Kinney yet. If you don't know Carrie Brownstien from Portlandia does both guitar and vocal work! I'm at work so I'll think of suggestions through the day. Definently give Melodrama, YS and Blue a listen like our rad members suggested 😄

i'm only counting artists that are either female solo artists or groups where a *majority* of the members are female.

01 Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson

02 Live Through This by Hole

03 janet. by Janet Jackson

04 Days Are Gone by Haim

05 Blacklisted by Neko Case

06 Control by Janet Jackson

07 Heartthrob by Tegan And Sara

08 Back To Black by Amy Winehouse

09 If It Was You by Tegan And Sara

10 Haunted by Poe

(This does not count 2018 albums. If so, the new Kacey Musgraves would have a shot at this top 10.)

I just created a "favorite female albums" chart.
