Black Thought is, technically and lyrically, immense. Lacks the distinctive personality necessary to be considered, however.

Apart from all the young street kids that people like you and me don't understand (and E-40), Mike Eagle is the best rapper alive.

After Laughter is super fun and Aaron from mewithoutYou actually wrote one of their songs on that, really enjoy the album but definitely going Brick Body Kids here. It's my nom and I adore Open Mike.

He's working on new stuff, played some at my school. He had a great one about coming into money and getting to eat all the things he wants, so he's eating like rolexs and flatscreens now. Other new one was a little more serious but nice to see him still incorporating some comedy into his stuff

Going into the tournament, Brick Body Kids Still Daydream was my second favorite album of the tournament (after my nominee) and in my top ten for the year. After revisiting, that hasn't changed. What an excellent, intricate, and meaningful record.

The big question mark here was Paramore. I had never listened to a full album of theirs before, which was intentional, and I didn't expect to like this one, even though I know it's a different sound than their other work. After Laughter turned out to be a damn good pop album, and one of the best discoveries of the tournament so far. However, it could have been even better. It lost momentum in the last third, in part due to the bizarre artistic choice of burying the vocals so far in the mix on No Friend that they were unintelligible.

So, Open Mike Eagle takes this one for me. But a pleasant surprise from Paramore.

Brick Body Kids was great. Unlike a lot of hip hop today it wasn't obnoxious at all. Sounds like he had something to say which I'll pick up more with future listens, and the beats and music were interesting. Gets my vote over Paramore who I've never liked and this album didn't change that at all.

Love the hell out of the Open Mike Eagle album. Think that's in my top 10 for 2017 for now. Will probably change due to this tournament. While I have to give Paramore album a listen. Might also knock out there 2013 album as well.
