I still like to stick to the one album per artist rule because it allows me to give a better view on my musical tastes.
I try to solve the problem by sticking to the one artist per album rule but to mention in the comments also the other albums I like of that artist. The problem with that is that these other albums don’t get any rank points that way.
But I don’t stick to that rule in my decade and year charts.

Kidding! Obviously you wouldn't hate one and like the other. But if I didn't have some kind of restriction 20% of my chart would be Coltrane, Mingus and Miles, and that's kind of boring, even to me.

It's definitely not as bad. But sorry, I still don't like it. I'd prefer that everyone's charts were simply ranked lists of their genuine favorites, with no self-imposed restrictions.

Checked out your charts. You’d like my picks and also dihansse. When I find charts like yours or his, which have my big favorites in them, I try to listen to the other albums which aren’t on mine. I’ve found many great albums that way.

I'm usually impressed when a user can fit 10 [insert top 10 band here] albums in their top 10. That was basically me when I joined this site (and maybe hasn't changed 🤣 ). I think I had 8 R.E.M. albums on my overall at one point in time.

Kidding aside, I'm usually impressed by charts who honestly and methodically are trying to list out their genuine favorites (not what would impress or is the most esoteric or extreme just for the sake of doing so unless of course that's what they like) and usually explain a little of why, even if very little, like a heading on the chart that says I did x, y, and z with this chart.

I don't like decade/overall charts whose sole purpose is to give "dank" recs (again, those who love "dank" music, that's fine). It's great for custom charts or threads, but I suppose I actually case about the aggregated data. It's often frustrating to find a user who would put album "A" on their chart which is more known because it truly is their favorite, but didn't, because they wanted to shout out a "B" album instead.

Jazz albums other than ones by Miles, Coltrane, Mingus, and Getz/Gilberto, The Koln Concert and Brilliant Corners.

This is just a stray thought, but I was wondering what albums other people have found consistently show up highly in charts they're impressed by, or if there's one album that, if you see it in someone's chart, you can tell it's going to be good.

Personally, I thought of this because I keep seeing "Blue" in the top 10 of charts I really respect. But curious to see if any of y'all have noticed something similar.
