If you don't feel like you're involved in music, I would recommend going out and buying an acoustic guitar (cheap one, $20-50) and screw around with it until some sort of pleasant noise comes out of it.

Or, learn how to DJ if you want. I DJ at my school dances sometimes. & in the summer, at a clothes store on the beach near me, once a week. Mind you, the store is closing this year, so oh well 🤣 I also try to get as many gigs in clubs that I can, but most of them won't let me because I'm underage 🙁 .DJ-ing isn't TOO hard. You just have to have the right personality, and play shit music that people like for some reason 🫢 . I guess I'm a bad-DJ though, cause I never make my own remixes 🤣 .

Just know what's relevant in today's music, and what's dance-y sounding....Which can be a pain sometimes 🤣

Oh, the class if for making music. It's just for a high-school credit though.

But, in my opinion, and the industries opinion, a good music critic (or movie critic, or food critic, etc..) should be able to understand how the field they're in is created and explored. I find it important for myself to learn how to use a recording studio, so I can understand and broaden up on what I'm saying while talking about music.

I'm sure a food critic that's never cooked before would have no clue what he's actually saying. Ya know?

No it makes a lot of sense and it's very well articulated and very true. I can't believe you get to do a class like that for high school though, so jealous.

OK. now that I finally understand what this thread is about, let me tell you a bit about the "fantasy" parts of my band.

First, the imaginary lineup of Charlie N. George:
Charlie (Me): Frontman, Producer and Pianist.
George (My brother): Web Designer and Guitarist
Cubbie (My Golden Retriever): Drummer and Tech guy.
Carlos (my Boss at work): Bassist and horn player

For the most part, Charlie N. George is a singer-by-committee band; while it's normally me that sings, most songs that George writes 3-4 per album normally, he sings in, too. Cubbie even writes one song per album normally.

There are some very interesting parts of our live band:
*Several of our songs have things like multiple guitar parts, multiple drum parts, etc. At those times, we invite random members of the audience on stage to play them.
*While we do use real instruments, they're all plugged into a Mac Pro running Garageband, so they can easily switch amps and settings on the fly.
*Once per show, we invite a bunch of random people on stage to make a song on the fly. That's a lot of fun.

Also, since I live next-door to Dennis Deyoung, we open for Styx once. The tomato stains I got there took weeks to remove from my clothes.

To our surprise, the album will not only be a smash hit among followers of John and the Blanks, but it will be so revolutionary and innovative that no critic will be able to deny it its place among such classics as Sgt. Pepper and Dark Side of the Moon. The members of the band, who were of course not trying to create a legendary album but rather just trying to have a good time rocking out with their friends, will be stunned by this and will not be entirely sure how to react to their newfound fame as rock legends.

Two years later, we will release our second album, "High Water" (so named as an homage to the Rush song of the same name), another rock opera describing a young man's journey sailing on the ocean, having to deal with the death of his shipmates and several supernatural occurrences that surround him. The style of this album will draw more from the style of sea chanties in the way that "Dreamcatcher" drew from Native American musical styles. Though the album will receive an equally enthusiastic reaction from our fans, the critics will view it as a relatively weak effort after the masterful production of our debut, saying that, unlike our debut, in which the story and music were woven perfectly together in a way that was bot appealing to listen to and yet complex enough to make you think, the story of this album is the main focus and the album suffers due to a lack of musicality.

Desperate to prove the critics wrong, the band (without my consent) decides to create a more pop-oriented (though still progressive) album. Three years later, we will release our third album, simply titled "Ysque", a collection of shorter, individual songs that maintained the style of our older recordings but simplified the themes. To my chagrin, the album turns out to be a huge hit. Many critics rank it up with "Dreamcatcher" while others argue that nothing could ever come close to our debut. Ashamed of having sold out for critical acclaim, I leave the band, and without my leadership and songwriting ability, they are forced to disband.

It's a true American tragedy.

You all realize that there was a lot of great music the band was never able to make.

So Ysque reunites and releases their 4th. album Run To The Hills (an homage to the Iron Maiden song) and it goes 3x platinum.

And, more importantly, GARY puts it on his chart.
