Proc Fiskal is definitely my favorite of the tourney so far even surpassing Sounds Almighty. great stuff. I really like Jenny wilson's album, but this is was a pretty easy vote for me.

My albums never do well in this tournament. I thought this one might be more palatable than Drakeo the Ruler, but the minute one of them comes up against some white genre with conventional white lyrics and white song structures, mines don't stand a chance.

I voted for the powerful Jenny Wilson album. Insula, while interesting at first, started to do my head in a bit by the end.

Proc Fiskal: 21 years old, from Edinburgh. Implausibly far removed from early grime and pirate radio, both chronolgically and geographically, but author of its most poignant tribute, an album of frenetic, sugar-rush, found sound percussion, bright video game bleeps, and immediate, gorgeous melodies. He'd download old radio sets from the now-defunct Grime Tapes - just one more invaluable archive lost to the passage of time and the inherently disposable nature of music in the post-Napster era - and take it all in, from the angular, icy minimalism of Wiley and Skepta, to the fidgety, ADHD of Dizzee, and even the Nokia 3310 concertos of Mr. Slash (Google him). He never went to a grime rave, never heard these beats in real time. He sat in his bedroom and absorbed it all, unaware of its glorious, almost impossible context, and somehow richer for it. I saw Oxide & Neutrino and More Fire Crew on Top of the Pops. I went to grime raves. I bought Dizzee's debut the day it came out; Proc Fiskal was five years old. I was too aware to imagine grime in this way: gauzy, hyper-melodic, set to footwork speed, an act of classy collage; post-Burial, and fittingly still on Hyperdub. The original wave made beats on Playstations; Proc Fiskal samples Playstation games. Full circle; both in the centre of the Venn diagram, and miles outside of it (about 332 miles, actually, as the crow flies). Grime's resurgence, and subsequent mainstream acceptance, has been a macro and micro victory for every person who ever shared songs communally on mobile phones on the top decks of inner-city buses, but musically it has retained a reliably stubborn adherence to those initial creators. Proc Fiskal has reshaped and remoulded grime in his own image, in a way only an internet-savvy youngster from miles outside of the nucleus could've, and has made the genre a better place for it. Grime is dead; long live grime.

Both are very good albums. The intense lyrics are obviously a focal point for Wilson's record, and the electronic elements are also well-done and create an interesting juxtaposition. The atmospheres and production of Proc Fiskal had me hook, line, and sinker though, so I'll have to go with that one.

It becomes the first find of the tournament to join my 2018 top 100. Meanwhile, Exorcism lands in my honorable mentions chart and would have beaten a fair number of the nominees. Tough matchup.

Don't worry, I'll let you know the Context, Subtext, and 'Stories" of Insula at some point. They're more interesting than that other album's, and matter both more and way, way less. But also, it just sounds better.

I dont know about the proportion. For me, I certainly wouldnt say half . A great piece of music can stand on its own.

Which isn't to say that stories cant be an integral part. My only point was that (and to be perfectly clear, speaking only for myself) there are some stories I'm more inclined to want to hear multiple times.
