Yeah, Face To Face is a great album and a worthy reinterpretation of the source material. Not as good as the original, but still one of the better albums of 2018. Obviously I'm voting for Golden Hour though, which in addition to being my nominee, is one of the better albums of all time.

As a general rule, I keep myself in a country-free world, but this is an easy vote for Ms Musgraves. CSH is pretty monotonous and in serious need of some more variety across the album. Monotony can be okay if it's a sound you really like, but CSH doesn't rise to that level for me. Meanwhile, Kacey really wins me over despite my general distaste for the genre.

Tbh I thought Golden Hour was super overrated and Twin Fantasy F2f is a masterpiece but apparently I’m in the minority lol.

I guess I read too far into "not in the same league" and "has very little in common". Perhaps it's semantics of his statement and theirs that aren't aligning, and if that's the case I'm sure the reality of what's being said is somewhere in between.

I'm not a country pop expert or anything, but I felt like half her album was really unique for a country artist, and the other half I did indeed feel like it was pretty standard country pop. If half the album is in the same league and has much in common... I guess I'm missing something.

The crucified comment (hyperbole of course) was to address 3 people ganging up on an opinion that isn't technically wrong. She is country pop and I do feel like about half of the album was pretty standard country pop (albeit a higher octane of songwriting for 75% of the album). The other half (first half) was indeed unique for a country pop artist.

Anyway, I'm sure everyone is being cool... wait, am I being cool? (WKUK)

It isn't alt country. It isn't outlaw country... those would indeed be FAR from country pop.

Anyway, my take on both albums is that they are both a bit underwhelming. In the end I'm voting for Kacey.

No one is getting crucified here lol. And no one is saying she's far from country pop.

Surprised Golden Hour isn't higher on our 2018 chart. Feels like #3-4 material, even for BEA. It's getting my vote.

I don't revisit Face To Face too often, and for the most part I think of it as an experimental reissue than anything else, but I still hold it in reasonable regard. It's a decent (revamped) indie rock record.
