I seem to remember earlier in this thread you mentioned that you had the most respect for Reni the drummer or maybe you thought he was the coolest... something like that. Anyways...

Leave 'Something's Burning' alone,it's my favorite Stone Roses song.But that section did drag and Fools Gold' which is probably my least favorite tune in the setlist went on for what seemed like an eternity.One slight criticism is that they don't seem to be changing the setlist at all which doesn't allow for an 'OMG can't believe they're playing that' moment,but if someone had told me I'd be seeing them this time last year I'd have laughed at them so I'm not gonna dwell on it.Glad to hear you had an awesome time.Been looking at some of the forums exclusively for Stone Roses talk and it seems even more likely according to "people in the know" that either a new album will be released at the end of this year or a single with a few B-sides,either way I'd be happy.

OK. I promised a review of their performance at the Jisan Rock Festival and here it is:

As DLGGLD mentioned, they have added some interesting outros to the old songs. They also do a bit of jamming in the middle of some of the long psychedelic ones, some jams of which I didn't care for (more on that later).

I was able to get up into the front pit, and while waiting in line, I met some Korean uber fans who had made some cool T-shirts. I was about 10 or 11 rows from the stage, but standing up in a field.

Anyways, first the positives about the performance:

1. Mani and Reni were amazing and may be one of the best and tightest rhythm sections of all-time. They are both incredible musicians, and that's important because of the next part
2. John Squire is a phenomenal (underrated) guitarist and he wants the audience to know it. Some of his noodling really added to the songs, while some it was well... noodling, and didn't quite hit the mark, especially during the middle of Fools Gold. At one point, he was playing with some kind of a pitch modulator at the back of the stage, and the tune was starting to fall apart at the seams. I was wondering if I was actually at a Sonic Youth show. This is why Mani and Reni are so important to the band chemistry. Also, he doesn't favor a poppy jangley sound anymore. It's been replaced by a distorted crunch, a bigger, more classic rock guitar sound, and he plays nothing but stratocasters now. And he is phenomenal when he's listening to and actually playing with the band. I just hope they keep his theatrics somewhat in check for the third album.
3. Ian Brown is the weakest link when it comes to the live show, as he's not known for having a great singing voice, but thankfully, he was on key for most of the set. Maybe the practice is helping. Although one wonder if he had a somewhat ulterior motive when he let the audience sing the chorus to I am the Resurrection. He was also a fairly charismatic frontman, and enthusiastic to say the least, and I think it's cool that he learned the Korean 'hello, how are you?' greeting for the concert. It says a lot about the guy for being culturally sensitive.

4. Perhaps most important: They are clearly having fun playing together again. Mani, especially, had a big grin on his face throughout most of the show. You can tell this is a dream he has had for while, and it's come true. For those who think they're doing it just for the money, that might be one reason, but it was clear that they have rediscovered their chemistry on stage, and they are having a lot of fun playing together again. They gathered at the stage and hugged and did a hand in hand group bow like this was a one off performance.

Now some of the negatives:

1. I already mentioned how John Squire's guitar playing can be over the top and noodley sometimes.
2. Ian Brown forgot the lyrics during three different songs. It's like he got lost in the moment or something. Now having sung in a band on stage, I know how this can happen when your concentration wavers a bit, but Brown should be more professional. It was especially noticeable during the beginning of Fool's Gold. John and Mani actually looked at Ian at one point with an expression like... Well...?" But they were both kind of laughing with him too which shows how true number four above is. When Ian came in, I don't think it was on the right beat, but they eventually pulled it together, and the words started to flow in the right order.
3. Playing Shoot You Down, Fool's Gold and Something's Burning back to back really kind of made for a draggy middle of the set. The third one, especially, is a really weird choice for a song. This tells me they might be favoring moody psychedelic jams, probably because they provide a blank template for Squire to go off on guitar. It also might suggest the direction they will go with their next album. We'll have to wait and see.

Overall though, it was exciting. The Stone Roses have rediscovered their chemistry, the fans loved it, singing along on the most popular cuts from their debut. Waterfall into Don't Stop was really interesting. As far as I can tell, they have actually created a live way of playing Don't Stop, which I didn't expect. Some songs you wouldn't expect to, totally rocked like This is the One sounded like an anthem. Overall, it was great to hear them live and it it was a realization of a dream about 20 years old now. Looking forward to the third album.

That's the full list of songs they have played so far.It was one of the best gigs I've ever seen,simply amazing.They seem like a band loving every minute of it,especially Mani.Ian's singing is the low point of the whole show,but that's just because everything else is so on point,you are in for a treat.The revamped outros to a number of songs change every gig by the looks of it so make sure to take it all in.Squire and Reni are gods.I'm going to see them again when they come to Belfast next month.Would love to hear how you got on,you're in for one of the best nights of your life,enjoy.

I'm looking forward to it. It's an all-day event (part of a rock festival) though, so it's going to require some stamina. 😨 I thought the backing track for Don't Stop was Waterfall backwards. How could they perform that live? 🤔 ... unless they are using a pre-recorded track. I like Standing Here, but Brown ripped off Van Morrison for that line about being in Heaven when the girl smiles. Once I learned that, I liked it a bit less.

She is Edie Sedgwick, who was a muse of Warhol and Dylan (Just like a woman, Leopard Skin Pill-Boy Hat, or the VU's Femme Fatale were written about her). She had a very interesting yet extremely difficult family background, and she died at the age of 28.
