Wow, another brutal matchup! I actually considered nominating Maps. An all-time favorite of mine, and I certainly can't begrudge anyone voting for it. I see there's a complaint that this doesn't do justice to DOOM's skills. But I'd argue the point of this song is that it's less of a DOOM skills showcase and more of a tag-team effort with Mr. Fantastik, both riding the incredible beat immaculately with brilliant, quotable rhymes. Just a really fun song.

No I'm not getting mad over someone not prefering Maps or that it's some kind of sacred cow, I can totally understand how it's not some people's cup of tea and yes there is a certain moment-in-time appeal to the tune (... but also pretty timeless as well), especially for someone who remembers it being performed in concert back in '03. From a personal standpoint, yes, The National go right up there as one of the most overrated acts of the 21st century, especially considering they seem like a band I would very much enjoy, but obviously I'll wait to make their music an issue once they're actually up in a match.

I didn't say The National don't make plain indie rock songs! 😜 I mentioned The National because they also make plain indie rock songs (and because if Maps had better percussion and Matt Berninger on vocals it would sound like a The National song). As much as I like The National I would also be surprised if one of their songs had reached the level of acclaim Maps has reached.

I like both but don't quite have the same level of respect for Maps as most seem to. Narrow vote for Doom as it suited my mood a bit more.

When I went through the list, there were like 3 or 4 matchups in which I thought that the rap song wasn't the best choice - this being one of them. 'Maps' is killer.

Love DOOM, but the issue here is that Maps is the 2000's song. Like, it could win. I don't think there's a lot of songs in the decade that hold a candle to it. It's in that top-tier kinda place.
