For sure. It's not. Even if it was as pervasive, a song built on that much technical precision would have a difficult time being nearly as influential. Atlas just sounds like it's of no other time period than the 2000s.

I think you'd have to throw Rehab, Golddigger, Time to Pretend and Independent Women into the definitive songs of the decade as well.

In terms of songs that defined the decade, I'd say 50 Cent's 'In Da Club' is in contention. It really helped shape the sound and vibe of mainstream rap - arguably the dominant singles genre - in the 2000s. Its mix of New York street bonafides, West Coast bounce, and disinterested Southern stripclub drawl also paved the way for the wave of post-regional hip-hop that we're still in the midst of, and it jumped right into the middle of the pop culture venn diagram where it's no surprise to hear it played at any wedding. Difficult to argue that 'Atlas', for example, is more pervasive or influential than it.

Paper Planes for sure is up there. Also, Crazy by the Gnarles was a pretty big deal. Hey Ya by OutKast....Take Me Out by Franz..... for me, that’s probably the shortlist.

Agreed. Like it or hate it, I don’t think there are many tracks that summarize the aughts better than Atlas.

Augie March is a real discovery for me and it doesn't even come from his first two albums which are supposed to be his best. Ryan Adams and even Jeff Buckley are good reference and Allmusic even compares him to Ray Davies on their review of Strange Bird, his second album.
Definitely one to discover while the Battles track has something annoying although the beat under it is great.

Hoping Atlas goes far in the tournament. When it came out it really opened my mind as to what music can be (I was young and whatnot, but still, it's a really unique track). Gets an easy vote for me here, even with nostalgia aside.

Something felt familiar when I was listening to Augie March and I couldn't put my finger on it until I read Michael's comment - there are definitely Ryan Adams vibes here. Ended up voting for March even though I wasn't really all that impressed. Battles and similar bands have never done anything for me and honestly a lot of this song sounds silly to me.

Hmmm. At first I didn't like that Augie March song but then I got into it. I'd maybe have gone with a Ryan Adams song for this kind of feel but I can sort of see why nobody nominated him!

Atlas-yeah it puts most naughts post-punk to shame by being much truer to the original idea. I find the vocal effects a bit annoying though and I think the track could be shorter.

I'm stuck. Think I'll abstain but not in protest as they are both pretty good tracks for me.
