"Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst" is great in the context of the album it belongs to. I'm not sure it stands alone very well, especially against what is easily one of the most iconic pop songs of the century, a song that even my 10-year-old brother at the time simply could not get enough of. The fact that Kendrick's album track is even coming close to winning to me suggests that maybe people are letting Grimes' later indiscretions -- such as cavorting with manic union-breaking billionaires -- or her career at large -- Kendrick has hands-down the more impressive career and body of work -- get in the way of what is frankly the plain truth: "Oblivion" deserves this win.

Why does this matchup have significantly more votes than the rest? I guess Grimes and Kendrick draw a crowd around here. This really coulda been the finals.

I guess if Kendrick loses I'll go with Pyramids or Thuggin' till the end.

Unfortunate for Kendrick I think, it's a fine song and collectively GKMC is a far greater album than anything Grimes will ever likely make, but Oblivion is a singular wonder of a track, that I don't think I'd back anything Kendrick has made against it.

Kendrick for me, but this is very close. One of the best pop sings vs one of the best hip hop tracks of the decade.

Yeah if I had made a top 10 list of 2010-2014 songs back in 2014, it would have most likely included both of these (maybe Genesis instead of Oblivion). Agree with almost everything Skinny said re: Kendrick, and there are few better pop songs in the entire decade than Oblivion. Also just an excellent approach to a serious subject matter.

I don't know, I won't vote yet.

Early Kendrick somehow managed to put his own spin on classic backpackerism whilst still remaining true to his Compton gangsta forebears without it coming across as trite or preachy, which might be the single most impressive tightrope walk in hip-hop this past decade. 'Sing About Me' is thoughtful and touching, yet still catchy and unforgettable, showing that innate ability he has to put himself right at the centre of the universe without ever collapsing into the selfish myopia that Drake has spent his career mired in. He isn't as good of a natural rapper as Gibbs or even Pusha T (let alone Andre 3000, to whom he has been compared incessantly over the years), but as a curator of great elements and fitting turns of phrase his talent is pretty much unmatched in hip-hop, outside of maybe Q-Tip and the aforementioned Three Stacks. This isn't my favourite song of his by any stretch, but it may be the one that best encompasses just what makes him such a refreshing artist.

'Oblivion' is an amazing pop song, oddly fluid for something so punchy, and could quite conceivably win this whole thing without any backlash, and I even voted for it against one of my own (admiytedly hastily picked) nominations earlier in this tournament, but my vote goes to Kendrick here.

I'm gonna go with Grimes. That Kendrick track simply isn't my favorite of his, it's a bit too long and lyrically repetitive, imo, to compare to something like M.A.A.D. City, which I would've voted for over Grimes. I also think the first half is much better than the second. It is an excellent track, but there's something about the Grimes track that I just find fantastic, so I'm gonna choose it over Kendrick's epic. I fully expect Kendrick to win this round, though.
