Thanks to everyone who participated! I thought we had a nice mix of unknown songs and decade classics, with the top three predictably representing the latter. I wasn't able to close or open new matches last night, and rather than offset the every two days thing by opening more tonight, I'm just going to wait to open more matches until Saturday to keep things on the same pattern. I closed the matches that were open over four days though.

With round 1 done, it's on to round 2. What are the most surprising results so far? Personally I thought a Beyonce - CRJ heavyweight bout in Round 2 was a given.

The last match-ups from Round 1 are now up! Instead of starting Round 2 while the first round is still going I'll wait until all the first round matches are done, meaning Round 2 will start sometime over the weekend.

Quick FYI that I'll be camping this weekend without access to Internet so the matches I open tonight will be open an extra day, until the 27th. To keep things on schedule, the matches opened on Thursday will also be open 5 days. After that things will be back to normal.

And that's a wrap on the play-ins! Congratulations to everyone whose picks advanced. Now that we're down to 64 it's time to unveil the official bracket. For the first round we'll start with four matches open, and matches will continue to be open for four days. However, I'll be opening four new matches every two days, meaning that after this first set we'll have eight matches open at a time. I'm hoping this won't get too hard to track, but let me know if it does. Most of the votes in these matches are coming in pretty early so I think things can be sped up just a bit.

Yeah I hear you - it's hard to nominate just 3 songs to represent something, and often we have like 5 minutes to make that choice. It's still fun, and if nothing else it's not the "best" list, but clearly these tracks made an impression at some level if we are choosing them.
