Honestly, while The Blacker The Berry probably isn't my favourite off the record (personally I'd take one of: Institutionalized, Hood Politics, u, and maybe How Much a Dollar Cost), I think it's probably the right choice for the tournament. It feels like a centerpiece if you can say this album has one (well, alongside i - the album version of course).

I thought that there was a consensus about Blacker The Berry being the best song off of TPAB. Guess not. It's not my favourite either, but it's a damn good choice nonetheless.

A fairly easy vote to Kendrick in this instance, even though it's not the Kendrick song I'd have picked (or even, frankly, one of the first ten I'd have picked). It's got an intensity that's necessary, and features some of Kendrick's most focused rapping, lyrically and vocally, but it's also preachy and deliberately anthemic, leaning into its fire and brimstone vibe a little too much for me to want to frequently return to it. That said, if I'm in the right frame of mind, and the light catches it just like so, I think it's a work of brilliance, though those moments become more infrequent with each listen. I also like 'True Love Waits' a lot, but it feels kinda lightweight here.

I'm not sure it'd be EXCRUTIATINGLY difficult, I still would've definitely voted for Kendrick, but I would've been upset about having to get rid of a great song. Not so much here. Why wasn't Daydreaming the nominated Radiohead track?
