Beat It Down by Y Pants

Fun No Wave with a young marble giants approach. Lots of Omnichord, and toy piano used very effectively. A must listen to for the CBGB aficionados.

Ike Yard by Ike Yard

I reallllly recommend this band. Super dubbed out proto techno no wave stuff. Nothing that I've heard that quite approaches the sequencer programming this achieves. The filter on these drum machines really feels like it's barely keeping a lid on the whole thing. Disarmingly sexual in how wet the whole thing sounds at times? Specially on stuff like Cherish 8

What's the over/under on Oppenheimer Analysis being a psyop propagated amongst cool synth kids? On one hand great singles, on the other hand, almost certainly advised shadowy drone bombings for major world powers.

This is one of the better album song names I've heard. I'm intrigued.

There's some great post-punk and coldwave from the USSR and other former socialist countries. I don't think that has been mentioned yet.

'Doubt Beat' is everything I ever wanted from guitar-based rock music. "Someimes I think that we do, and then again I think that we don't!"

Just gonna expand on this: that glitchy guitar intro and the hyper-catchy, trebly bassline are just insanely good.

Also, absolute yes to the Bush Tetras. 'You Can't Be Funky' is a master jam.

The Seduction is the closest thing post punk really ever got to Henry Cow and Linder is so expressive in a very visceral -you can feel her body contort in the studio as they're recording these tracks- sorta way. Big fan, the live videos of this band are something else entirely.

Anyway re Gowi. Yeah Aunt Sally are choice but as Gowi introduced me to over discord, the singer's followup self titled album is a masterwork. It's produced by Holger & Jaki from Can and when you've got the rhythm section of one of the greatest bands of all time you can't go wrong. + engineering from the legend Conny Plank!

Swell Maps were one of the first bands I got into after I digested the big post-punk bands (Television, Joy Division, Bauhaus, etc.) and they still relatively hold up. Definitely in the same sphere as The Mekons, Aunt Sally, and the like for me. Very good.

I know that. Why do you think I love it? Hell the same can be said about punk rock. In punk you can go as poppy as Blink-182 or go as extreme as Dropdead, and there are many different kinds of metal punk combinations like grind, crossover thrash, metalcore, deathcore, etc. And this doesn't include the wackier genres like like synth punk and ska punk. Post-punk is very much the same. The interchanging with new wave that Talking Heads and B-52's are known for, the atmospgere of cold wave, the mysticism in Siouxsie's take on Gothic rock, and the utter darkness of Nick Cave are what make it such a special genre. Let's not forget the common overlap with punk rock that define early Wire amd Talking Heads, or the simple dance-punk of LCD Soundsystem.

The whole idea of post-punk was to go beyond punk's limitations. I might even go as far as to say that post-punk could potentially be the greatest form of rock music ever. I love both punk and post-punk very closely.

Post-punk is a fluid, amorphous term that takes in so many different tentacles of punk's DIY attitude, from Joy Divison's and Magazine's and The Fall's early industrial, angular Mancunianism, to the sci-fi synth-pop of the Human League in Sheffield, to the VU- and disco-indebted wonk-pop of Orange Juice and Aztec Camera in Glasgow, not to mention the mod-revivalist ska of The Specials (in Coventry) or the aggressive romantic working-class white soul of Dexy's (in Birmingham), or The Pop Group and The Slits (London) leaning on reggae, dub, and Soweto street sounds, or the purist, nationalist bad vibes of Sham 69 etc..
