A few things to address: Whatever genre Limp Bizkit is and Crunkcore (whatever that is) and whatever the Insane Clown Posse is are all worse than K-pop. K-pop is just cute and totally inoffensive in every way, except for the whole objectification thing in the videos, but that's not different than what we do in the states. There are boy groups too like Big Bang and Beast. The problem with the sluttiness in the videos is, it's mostly false advertising as most girls here want to get married, not get down and dirty. It's a very traditional society. No one has made any comments about the Korean rock and rap groups I posted? I mean talk about an eclectic mix! You got the pop punk Rancid-sounding, Burning Hepburn, Korean rockabilly group (The Rock Tigers), and some funky hard core rap from Korea's first rapper, Drunken Tiger, or Tiger JK, as he's also known.

Yes, I am an American, but I am currently in Korea teaching English, and it appears Street is interested in that culture.

Send me a pm with questions you have and I'll answer them.

Nope.

I was curious because you stated this 2 Shankly

"I'd still like to hear how life is over there, if you're interested in talking about that"

And he lives in the U.S.

It's cool, Mr. Shankly. I never assumed you were. Other members here have mentioned being fans though... and that's why I created this thread. I'd still like to hear how life is over there, if you're interested in talking about that... and I definitely appreciate your contributions to this thread.

I do think 4Minute is a great group. I like Younha, too. I tried listening to a lot of BoA a couple of years ago, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Just like with western music, I don't think it's possible for everyone to like everything in Korean music, or to love music only because it's Korean. That would be... odd. At the same time though, there are some groups there that I really, really like. It's been a nice surprise for me, and hopefully will make some other people happy, too. Parades get rained on. That's okay. It's still fun to have them, though.

Thank you for the link, Xavygravy... and for posting miss A... which, I have to admit, is one heck of a stunning MV! So many female artists have attempted to make videos with some sensuality to them, and they fall flat or look embarassing. This one doesn't. It goes straight for the throat, and makes no apologies about it. That's pretty impressive. I've been watching their follow up singles, too... but so far this is their best, IMHO.

So you don't like Davichi ❓

Do you live in S. Korea Street ❓

Uh... Not trying to rain on your parade, but I wasn't claiming to be a fan of K-pop, I just thought I'd let you know that I'm aware of it (It's impossible not to be, if you're in Korea). I think Big Bang are poised to become the breakout stars out of Korea. I keep seeing them on MTV. No, I don't choose to listen to K-pop, the same way I never chose to listen to Britney Spears or The Spice Girls or Justin Bieber...I do enjoy watching these videos though. 🤤

I will admit the hook to this song is insanely catchy ( ❗ warning: it will get stuck in your head):

I also like the guitars soaked in reverb with the kind of James Bond theme going on. OK, I like the song. 🫢

If I may, here are some Korean alternatives to K-pop that I like:

Only reason I know these groups now is due to the only music show on a Sunday morning (on commercial, free-to-air) is PopAsia. K-Pop, J-Pop, doesn't matter but it's all there. Not what I would listen to all the time but not terrible LMFAO or Pitbull.

Well, as good fortune would have it, there seem to be some K-Pop fans here on this BBS! Yaay!

So here is a place to talk about your favorites. 😁

This began with some talk about 4Minute, and so I'll begin by posting the MV's for a couple of my favorite songs of theirs. I hope you like them:

And this is my favorite song of theirs to date:
