Some may know their recent work of Beard, Wives And Denim but Tame Impalas sister group has some very weird early psychedelic music. The album is a killer for anyone who digs experimentation.

The Disconnection by Carina Round

Just listen, this was the bizzarely erotic and mind-rattling experience Ive had listening to an album in quite some time. Particulary how playfully innocent it starts and then how it manages to be alternately wildly, theatrically surreal and wryly personal at the same time, all held up by a surprisingly meaty guitar-based core. It just brings out the beautiful masochist in you. One of the most severly underrated artists today (apparently all raven-haired, female, british singer-songwriters need to be instantly compared to PJ Harvey), her recent Tigermending is also terrific, one that is artier but equally potent and confident, and her Slow Motion Addict is probably the easiest one to swallow, largely song-based and almost poppy but still quite clever and with a hard edge.

Harald Grosskopf - Synthesist (1980)

Crazy, otherworldly ambient synth soundscapes. I just think it's completely beautiful. It somehow manages to sound both dated (but in a cool way) and yet from the future simultaneously, and despite its' spacey, robotic nature it still maintains a fluid, living, human heart. Just stunning.

I just bought that album over the weekend, along with Doolittle by Pixies, both great albums.

Brother, Sister by mewithoutYou

Firstly, these guys are a Christian band. But a damned good one. Lyrically they are infinitely stronger than any Christian band that I've heard. Their sound is some sort of mix of experimental/indie rock/post-hardcore. Whatever.

There's a sort of structured chaos that dwells in this album. They seem to incorporate a lot of unconventional instruments, yet nothing seems out of place. The vocalist has one of the most unique voices and it's complimented by the atmosphere created by the sounds of the instruments. He just seems to be able to convey every imaginable emotion.

This album gives me shivers.

Apparently The Guardian had it top of their list of the best albums of the last decade. I mean it's The Guardian talking about music but still. Oh and also it's my favourite album of ever so... yeah? Give it a listen?

I adore this album. How brilliant!

As Tall As Lions - You Can't Take It With You

This album is amazing in my opinion. I feel like they were a new band, with new sounds, that didn't suck or just repeated what was done before. Let me know what you think.

Ok I'm gonna do the obvious thing and post my #1 album, it's not as obscure as the others which have been posted so far but I do think it's underrated. I genuinely think people will love it if they give it a proper listen, means a lot to me anyway.
