I've never liked bits and pieces of Haken's music I've heard, but then again I've never committed to playing the full album. This type of overproduced, clean prog is unfortunately not something I'm excited about (with a few exceptions). Even worse when they're going for the prog metal/prog rock combo and blend the worst elements of both, including the lyricism and vocals. It also didn't help that I wasn't in the mood for prog today 😁

It's not all terrible, of course, there are exciting melodies, tight song parts and impressive playing, but overall I didn't like it. Again, it's unfortunate that I don't dig it, they're clearly good musicians and have excellent funky and jazzy grooves at times. Would probably enjoy them more live. So yeah, this is not for me, but I'm glad that others like it since it's a competent record with some unique twists. Cool rec Keatown, thanks!

Fantastic! Makes me realize I do NOT listen to enough prog.

Will post more thoughts once I've assimilated it a bit more!

Great album by a great band. Really fun prog, sorta reminds me of The Mars Volta (but, you know, good) in some ways. I once heard someone describe Haken as a modern Gentle Giant and I think that fits pretty well. Side note: a buddy of mine actually bought Haken's bass player's 6-string a while back.
